Middle vent removal

Post by randy1234 »

Could anyone help with advise on how to remove the dual vents in the middle of the dash. I have trying to gently pry them out and I can hear the plastic cracking. The fins are messed up and I a plan on rebuilding it.

Thank you!

A good resource is www.cabby-info.com. I'm sure Kamz has a procedure there.

Replied in the other thread:

For the center vent, i took a wire coat hanger and cut the bottom of it and divided that.
I bent a hook at 45 degrees on one end and the other I made a finger pull.

Insert that in the vent slots and hook the back of the vent on both sides and pull out.

To remove the side vents.....
Use a flat blade screw driver and pry it out at the top against the hard plastic shell (not the edge) and the dash

I have had good luck in gluing the middle edges with thin coats of jb weld quick If there are holes then you can use a piece of tape on the front to keep it from coming through.

Here are the Photos: Yes, I just did this for you.....

Start with a piece of Stiff wire, I use a wire Coat hanger and it is about 12 inches long.

Bend a 45 degree hook on one end and the other I make a finger pull.

Insert them in to the center left and right slots on the vents, and hook the back edge of the Vent.

You will feel it catch the edge on the back.

Now Gently and Firmly pull..

You can re-enforce the Brittle edges of that by using a very thin piece of Tin (this is Stainless Steel from a LCD panel that I had to replace on a lap top...) and Jb-Weld

Thank you so much CalAltaDubber and Briano1234! It came out with the coat hanger method and I have it on the kitchen table- -an understanding wife- -has not seen it yet. And Briano, I cleaned it before I started working on it.

I really, really appreciate the help. Thank you

So that's how I get the side vents out! I darn near took (even more) chunks out the lip trying to figure out where to pry!

Thanks fellas!
