Locked Out

Post by Eagle »

I've been locked out for three days and I've been trying to get back in. I guess I had entered my password incorrectly a few time and therefore it locked me out. It stated to contact a Board member but to do that and find their address, you have to log in. Being locked out you can't log in. So??????

For some reason tonight after ten or so attempts, it let me in.

My suggestion is to have someones e-mail address on the home page so if this happens to anyone, they can contact the board.

Thanks,

Eagle

Hey. There is no lockout feature for entering the wrong password x-times on this forum. Might just have been a chance that you weren't entering the password correctly all those times, or there might have been a hiccup on the board itself.

Wost case, on the log in page there is a link for "I've forgotten my password". You can always take that and reset your password.

As for contacting me (admin type person), I removed that link because of all the new spam-bots out there. I was getting 200+ spam e-mails a day due to the link having my e-mail address. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't sort through it to find a legit e-mail from someone such as yourself. The e-mail spam uses names it sees from posts and send e-mails to me asking for all kinds of stupid info.

So while I understand your aggravation, the info on resetting your own password is the best I can do at this time. Maybe in the future I can figure out a way to accomplish your suggestion without the spam bots abusing it.

I understand what you are saying. And yes, I was mis-typing my password, totally my fault. Like I say, don't blame you at all for not putting your e-mail address and making it public. I really never thought of that.

Hoping in the future I can type better.

Email form with CAPTCHA. That solved my infuriating spam bot problem.

Now, if only Yahoo admins would get off their asses and start making CAPTCHA forms for their web server users!

That's a fair point. Might have to see if someone has generated a plugin that does that for PHPBB.

The CAPATCAs are somewhat effective, but not 100%. They keep inventing bots that can crack them.

This is true. The site already uses captcha for signup and every once in a while, one gets through.

But, I can deal with a few spam mails, but 300+ makes it hard to sort the real from the BS, I don't care how many filters you setup.
