Brake Failure Ford Escape

Post by sixsracing »

Worked on a Ford Escape yesterday. Lost all it's brakes. Right front hose split. While I was bleeding the brakes after the repair the right rear hose failed. I then checked and sure enough the left side are split and in the same condition. This is a known defect with these vehicles. Ford knows all about it and does nothing but stock the part. If you drive one of these or know somebody who does, have them checked immediately.

Holy cow man! My mom drives one of those (in the limited trim and its quite the swanky ride for a Ford) and when we took it in to get an inspection sticker and a new universal joint they replaced the brake lines. Dad was not happy cause it was another $100 or so. They also wanted to replace the ABS gear that causes the pulsation in the pedal as it was cracked, but my dad declined and took it home and welded it up and its now working like a champ. On a side note I thought the Escape was the wussiest soccer mom car out there until I took it camping this past summer. That thing is awesome in light mud and out did a Jeep Liberty (trail rated my foot). We were camping on Gunstock Mtn. in New Hampshire and our site was up on a pretty good grade that couldn't be passed without AWD since it was so stincking wet and muddy. I was able to even pull our pop-op camper up to the site without getting stuck, although I did sling a little mud on the camper . Thanks for the FYI Steve.

Brake lines could be different than brake hoses. Lines are metal, hoses are rubber. Call and make sure.

My bad, it was the rubber hoses that go to the calipers off from the brake lines (which are fine themselves).

Thank you for the heads up!

My mom drives an '03 Escape, and it's due for a brake job. I'll pass it along.
