My ladies 88 cabby has awoken the great VW Gremlins , as per usual.
When we bought it the headlights work but when you hit the high beams the passenger headlight turns off and the passenger high beam doesnt turn on . yet the drivers side works fine. All bulbs are good and verified , aswell as the fuses. Wiring looks good and intact so Im guessing since the PO owner took the dash out to do the heater core that he may have hooked up the headlight switch wrong or the switch is bad.
Also , PO had installed a different cluster when the original odometer broke. Well last night on her way home the replacement clusters odometer stopped working. This is a classic and normal issue with these Old MKI/MKII odometer. Question is , do I just replace it with another , or crack it open and try and fix those pesky plastic gears.
Oh boy , what fun
Oh the VW gremlins have arrived , as per usual . LOL

No it isn't the switch as the lights function, albeit a tad differently than you are used to.
Check your grounds............ as that is the single point of failure.
Other than that I would just relay them up and be done with it.

I would pull it out and fix the gears.

All good. Found PO had swapped the + for - on the pass side high beam thus causing it to short out and blow fuses. swapped back and all 4 are good to go.
Also hooked up the $12.99 Harbor Freight specails Yellow Fogs with illuminated dash switch.
My women should have no problem seeing in the dark now.
