shocking as it may seem - I'll probably be selling the cabriolet. In an effort to reduce monthly expenses I'll be selling it and the van (that I'll never be able to afford to fix anyway) in order to purchase a ~2k vehicle for kellie and sell her '02 jetta to eliminate the car payment. It isn't that sad really - it goes mostly unused, and I don't have the same feelings about it as I did with my '84.
Probably get her volvo 240 since automatic mk2s are pretty rare, esp around here, and the trannys aren't for high miles... and there are quite a few volvos around with lots of life left in them. (if you didn't know, ~9 years ago I worked at an independent volvo shop back home, 99% on 240s and 740s for almost a year prior to moving down here... back home it was the floorboard rot that killed them..)
anywho, so I've got a couple of things to do to it first - replace the a/c compressor shaft seal & recharge the a/c, replace a suspect coolant hose... think I'm going to leave the driver's window as-is unless I can find a used motor. Maybe it's the same as the passat motor... has some mid hesitation thing that's most noticeable when cold, as well as a cracked, repaired, and still leaks a little until warmed up; exhaust manifold. otherwise everything is excellent. Oh, a front wheel bearing seal that goes eeeeeEeeeeeeeeeEeeee sometimes.
I'm thinking start at low 4k and shoot mid 3k? it's at 118k miles now. got it at 112k iirc
selling the bordeaux hearlot, price?

$3500 would be a good price for it, IMO, provided those items get fixed. So, starting at $4K would be about right.

Wow, after all the hard work you put into the Cabby, I am suprised ro hear this-especially that you did not bond with the car. Now I feel really bad about having your Scirocco
Of course you have to do what is right for your family. I'm sure it will be well loved by the next owner-at least I hope it will.
There will always be the right time in the future for other projects. But this doesnt mean you have to quit meeting up with us all at BAP, you know.

Oh and you have to come next year anyways. I am pretty sure Oran will be going again, and I am trying really hard to convince Queen Kammy to also come out for the showkuklaki wrote: There will always be the right time in the future for other projects. Re: selling the bordeaux hearlot, price?
Sorry to hear Nick, but I know how much them babies need.........
I would start at 12K.... hell yours is an award winner....
Have you seen the prices that some folks on Craigslist and ebay want for theirs it is absurd.
I was watching the ebay about a month ago, and there was one listed as factory..
needed a top, new manifold, and the seats were ripped and the tires were needing replacement
Then looking at the pic's it needed struts, and the engine looked like it had been abused as there
was dirt and crap... .. and they were asking 6k...
And I am looking for another, but alas, lacking in funds as usual..... otherwise.. I would Jump...
As that Bordeaux is my favorite red, and the interior is tan... two of my favorite colors....

Re: selling the bordeaux hearlot, price?
nah, it wasn't that much work (to me anyway) - as far as the bond, I like the car, but I don't love it. It's probably a combination of the higher seat height & lack of "go fast" stuff that my '84 had... The scirocco was fun, but only for me. a cabriolet is a better sunday drive to Sonic, or saturday evening at the drive-in, or out on a hot date type car, which is what we use it for in addition to the spring trips to chattanooga and my driving it to work an average of once every other week or so.kuklaki wrote:Wow, after all the hard work you put into the Cabby, I am suprised ro hear this-especially that you did not bond with the car. I'll keep you posted if there are any new developments.
