Ok, bought this car for my daughter. running fine. So I decide since it has the original water pump and timing belt to change them out.
Timing belt. No sweat. Water pump. Had to go the parts house twice to finally get the right one. Bentley not looking like my setup. So I replace the water pump and the thermostat after I flush the system. Car now overheats. Fan does not come on either. Test that no problem to fix. I cleaned and reused the housing too.
So I install a separate switch and run the fan full time. Car still gets hot.
According to the gauge. Where should this gauge sit normally? this one sat at
.75 before and never got hot.
Any ideas? I installed a 180 thermostat. (removed the 192) it is opening and the water pump is pumping. seems to be slow at idle. run the RPMs up and it pumps stronger. Pissing me off. Thinking the thermostat is not opening as soon as it should. Will replace tomorrow morning. No oil in water or water in oil.

You need to drill a 1/16 inch hole in the outer lip of the Thermostat, and then position that to point up in the housing assembly.
That will prevent a "Air" bubble in the hose that can possible prevent the Thermostat from opening correctly.
Also the head gaskets are notorious for going bad, and not intermixing the oil with water, they pressurize the cooling system with exhaust gases.

Excellent. Thanks for the pic. I will try that. I do not think the head gasket is bad....yet. But it does not seem to difficult to replace.
What about the temp gauge. Where should it sit when running normal?

THAT DID IT!! Thanks Briano. That little hole fixed the problem.
I have no bubbling in the radiator so the head gasket looks secure.
