Need some opinions/ideas on this Engine

Post by speedtek »

I posted this ad on several forums, (if anyone is interested here, just let me know), but I thought I would ask around not as an ad, but just a general query to see if I was off my rocker. I'm thinking this setup as it sits is easily worth around the $2000 CDN mark, but maybe I'm wrong?
Anyways, ad copy is below....any suggestions or comments are appreciated.
Well, this is kind of a fact finding, see if anyone is interested, what is it worth kind of post. I have a line on 1.8 Turbo swap, soooo I would like to see if there is any interest in my old engine and tranny. This engine has had absolutely EVERYTHING done to it.

-1.7L, bored and stroked to just over 2.0L
-Balanced and blueprinted rotating assembly
-Shaved head, 11:1 comp
-Ported and polished intake and head
-HD valve springs w/Titanium retainers
-272 schrick cam, solid lifters (this thing idles nasty)
-Canton Racing Billet oil filter ($100 alone)
-Weber redline, single butterfly throttle body (80mm)
-Scooter racing adjustable timing gear
-Jacobs ceramic ignition wires
-Jacobs electronics FC1000 Standalone ignition w/ C4 high energy coil
-4-2-1 long tube header
-big bore intake tube
-CIS cold air induction lower box (for aftermarket cone filter and remote mount)
I probably forgot some things, but if you have any questions, just ask. This engine hauls!! Probably the fastest NA 8V I've ever driven. It was built by a Porsche Mechanic in Victoria BC and runs like a dream on the highway. G-tech runs show around 105Hp at the wheels so probably near 125-130 at the crank.

The tranny is an 020 5-speed with a lightened 210mm flywheel and a brand new Sachs clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing. The tranny shifts perfect, no grinding in any gear and has a diesel 5th gear installed for sane highway cruising.

Anyways, I'd like to sell the setup as a complete package as I don't really need the hassle of seperating everything. Let me know if you're interested and I'd like to see what this setup might be worth. ATM, sale will depend entirely on what I can get for it and whether it is worth it for me to part with it. I know it's not worth a small fortuune, but I also know that it is worth more than an average swap as this engine has had a lot of time and money dumped into it.

Jeff,

Maybe you could add the particulars about the bore and stroke? Might make a better ad.

Unfortunately, I don't know them as I didn't own the car when the engine was built. I do know it was done, but no outright specs. I was going to drop the oilpan this winter to have a look at the crank, but just never got around to it with all the other little projects going on.

Yeah, I know it's pretty much an impossible sell to get even near half what has gone into it. Like I said, that's the trouble with building an 8V. At one time (when they were the only game in town) it was a big deal, nowadays a late model 2.0 can give better performance with far less mods and be smoother and a lot more cost effective. Oh well, was pretty much what I figured, but wanted to get a few opinions on the matter. I've got another project on the back burner atm that could possibly use the motor, so maybe I'll just rock it that way. At least I wasn't the one who dumped the majority of the cash into it...LOL. For what was spent on this motor I would have definitely gone with a 1.8 T to begin with.
