basic suspension questions please help

Post by cabriaulait »

hi, my cabbys had its new roof now but still needs dropping....
ive ummm obtained some springs, dont know who theyre made by but theyre red like my car so thats good enuf for me, i know they drop a mk1 by 50mm, now my question is, will the standard shocks ive got on her be ok for that level of drop or do i need new shocks too, the uk ministry of transport test says that at full extension the springs should(obviously) still be in contact so if the springs are too short can i butya spacer that will fill the gap. sorry if this sounds a bit daft but i am on a budget both financially and intelectually....
thanks in advance for any help and ill post piccies of the new roof in a bit
cheers
dave

IMO you should go with shortened shocks as well, as most drop will cause stock length shocks to blow out

That said
at full extention (ie, front end jacked up) the springs should still be perched, so you can run the springs till your shocks blow and then get appropriate shocks

So are you guys saying that with the front end of the car jacked up and the nuts undone the spring should still be tall enough so that it doesn't fall out of the holes?
No chowder for you, cause clams have feelings too.

You can't really go wrong with Boge Turbo struts and shocks when you do blow the originals out.

I took a set of red springs out of a 97 GTI the other night and they were not Neuspeed. I have the box at home, I'll look to see what other brand out there is coming in red.
