how my day went...........
i went to go on a food run today but had to stop at the auto hobby shop to fix my broken exhaust hanger, when i got there i noticed a puddle of oil under the jetta. so i assumed the oil filter crapped out on me. well upon further inspection (changing my oil and filter) it was the o-ring for the oil cooler. im thinking dammit, how the hell am i gonna get home let alone everyones food. well i call the local VW dealer and sure enough they had one in stock, i figured since i just changed my oil i should be able to go the 3 blocks to the dealership. i get there, get my part, get back to the hobbyshop.
(prior to driving to the deal i fixed the exhaust)
i put my car on the rack, pull the new filter off, remove the 27mm nut. and then proceed for the next 2.5 hours trying to get the damn cooler off. there is absolutely no room to get to anything. it woulda been easy if i had no A/C. i couldnt get the coolant lines off the cooler, so i had to basically stretch the cooland lines to get it off. got it off replaced the o-ring, and put it back together in about 10 minutes.
who woulda thought that a part with only one nut holdint it on coulda take so damn long to replace????
i got a nice blood blister on my left hand, and a nice 1/2 inch gash on my right hand. but my car is fixed and i officially have no oil leaks at all as far as i can tell.

yeah, the oil cooler seal seems real easy to do when you're looking at it, then you find out the damn thing doesn't want to give at all b/c of all the hoses hooked up to it and around it, and it's a major pita to get those hoses off with such limited space.. then you've got coolant and oil all over the place. At least you got it done and still have all your fingers.

My rocco was a member of the no oil leak club for a year. That all stopped a few days after we took ownership of the new rocco. That Monday I found a few drips on the garage floor.
Now I'm really worried what's going to happen since I kicked my rocc outta the garage to work on the new rocc last weekend and I haven't swapped places with them again.
SoCal - I know exactly what yea mean with that damned oil cooler though. Lucky for me, the only one I've delt with was when the engine was out of the car.

And every time he opens that garage bay, the a$$ of the new Rocco is mooning his car up close and personal. I just know this is going to be big, big trouble.

it wouldn't have been so bad if i already had my A/C deleted and that passat dual fan didn't make things easier eitherCalimus wrote:My rocco was a member of the no oil leak club for a year. SoCal, could you please take a detailed pic of the dual fan setup and it's proximity t the AC compressor?
I have a dual fan that I wanted to drop in my rocc. However, when I tried a test fit, it seemed as though the compressor was too far in the way and it wouldn't work.
Not sure, but doesn't the jetta have a smaller radiator then a rocco and it's also cocked at a funky angle too? I can't remember for sure, it's been a long time sinec I've had a early jetta to look at.
