welp, thats a 16v K-bar alright. I've seen folks pay around $50 (US) for them, sometimes more. However, once it starts to cross that point, I'd look at a lower tie bar from Neuspeed or some other aftermarket company as it will be about the same.

I also can't remember, but I think you have to drill 2 holes to make the K-bar work on an 8v. I could be wrong though.

yup that's my understanding as well. that doesn't terribly concern me as my subframe is in good shape and I should be able to anchor one without any real problems.

Any thoughts on the lick of paint... are these known to rust / crack / fail in any particular point. The seller lives in northern ontario canada.

You can get a brand new eurosport 2 point lower bar for $59 US
http://eurosportacc.com/stressbars.htm
I would say it is a far better bar than that one, despite what it may look like that is not a 4 point brace, the heavy duty 2 point from eurosport is far stiffer. If you want to spend a few bucks more and get the best chassis stiffness possible, go for the 4 point subframe.
PS: that used one looks like he just painted over the rust, I wouldn't touch it.

considering they can be picked up at wrecking yards for $10-20
a used one is a rip off

best bang for the buck (granted, more than the $50 mentioned above):

Yeah I mentioned to him that BFI is selling them on the 'Tex for $125, only trouble is they will only ship to Canada via UPS. Unfortunately that will add huge charges to the total as UPS charges horrendous brokerage fees for x-border shipping.
