removing glue from door

Post by StephanieGA »

Trim clips came yesterday. Successfully installed 2 of the 3 pieces of molding that had come off. However, someone has, at some point, tried to reattach the driver's door molding with some adhesive substance. A layer of glue remains and I cannot get the trim to install. I'm afraid the glue is thick enough to keep the molding from snapping onto the clips. Any suggestions on something to remove the glue without damaging the paint? I thought goof off. Husband said he thought it would take off the paint.

I have used Goo Gone with good luck, don't think it hurts paint though I am not sure, try it in a small spon on the inside of the trunk or hood to test first. It is citrus based and works well on different types of glues

Second time a post of mine didn't save... I am computerly challenged...

3m makes a pinstripe removal wheel that you put on a drill. It is a big assed gum eraser..
be careful with it.

What kind of glue did they use?

Great visual! Have no clue what kind of adhesive. It does look like it could have been that 3m tape stuff. It is now hard, not sticky at all. Will see what I can do.

Goo Gone is probably your best bet. Or very carefully scrape it off with a plastic tool.

I've had some luck with Zippo lighter fluid, but mostly on glue that was still gooey.
