Passanger side top, hard to latch

Post by daughtersCabby »

I just got my daughter's 86 cabby back from the mechanic, who put in a clutch and axles. First off, he was terrible, and I had to diagnose the axle problem. He tried to say it was the steering rack. Last time i checked, a steering rack won't cause a rotational noise. Any way, enough ranting.
My issue is now that the car is home, the right side of the top is about an inch short of latching. It needs to be really forced. It didn't before the clutch replacement. Could putting the car up on the rack cause something to bend or tweek? Any ideas on a fix?

Thanks for any help

No, unless they tweaked the frame. The normal top unlatched will sit about 1 inch above the windshield.
Now may I suggest that you roll your rear windows down about 1 inch prior to closing your top.

Another point that you may need to address are the top struts. They have been known to bind and cause closing and opening issues.
You may want to "pop" then off and try it.
