Dented Cabby

Post by eric4321 »

Well the wife did this with the golf cart to the Cabby. Any tips on how to pop this out and get it to original as possible would be appreciated. Also I have read if you put washers under the trim clips it makes the trim hold better. What type of washer should I use?

It is a paper washer, about less than a 1/16 thick.

And I had a similar dent, and replaced the door as painting it is a whole lot easier than fixing a dent...... :D

Brian I would be lucky if the door was what got dented. The panal behind the door is what has the dent. I am slowly pushing it out from inside the car. Are those washers available at auto parts stores or do I need to go elsewhare?

No, they usually come with the genuine VW clips, the clips that you can buy at napa are devoid of the said washers. You can take a piece of card stock (business cards) and make your own. You can try going to a hardware store to see if they have itty-bitty fiber washers that fit over the clip.

Something that worked for me once with a dent like that:

Use a toilet plunger to pull the dent out.

Thanks Brian for the tip on the washers. I bought Napa clips. Phil I tried a toilet plunger and sucton cup. Unfortunatly the dent is in the trim line. I learned this is whare the 2 pieces are welded together and the meatel is to thick to be pulled out. I am slowly pushing it out from the inside. I am going to paint the car once I get my 81 Rabbit going but I was trying to keep her as nice as I can until then.
