Another Drippy Knee Fix.

Post by Briano1234 »

I have found one last place for the Drippy Knee.
It was so Obvious that I didn't catch it until now.

Lets start at the basic.

Step 1

Is your Rain Gutter Trim Slipped?
Does it look like this?

Image

When it should look like this.

Image

Carefully pry the trim off.

On the flat part of the lips outer edge run some silicone

Reposition the trim to fully enclose the top of the gutter.
Place a drollop of silicone at the top of the trim, and finish
putting it on.

Image

Using Tape place it on the underside of the door seal and close the door to
"hold it".

Image

Pulling the tape tight over the trim to hold it in place.

Image

Now water that is sliding off the window can't blow directly back to the seal.

Step 2

Where your top frame contacts the "A" pillar seal is it tight, or is there a itty bitty gap? If
there is a gap, I got the fix.

Image

Open the top.

Image

Place a piece of "black" closed cell foam 1/4 inch thick. on the front edge of the seal
and Trim to look pretty. (gray used to show you).

Image

Now when you close the top, there won't be a GAP that water can get in to your knee.
Simple Effective and a Real No Brainer when you look at it.

Good article. I should check the rain gutter trim on mine, the passenger side started dripping for the first time last week.

While trying to figure that out I also noticed that the top doesn't quite align evenly with the windshield header. It appears to be offset about 3/8" to the left. Anyone else seen this? I'm trying to figure out if it's always been that way and I just never noticed, or if my "exuberant" driving a couple weekends ago tweaked something.

As in one side sits closer to the edge of the gasket than the other? That would either be the "j" hooks or a wacky frame.
