The wheel cylinder hex nut is stripped and I need to change it, I tried vice grips with no luck and am in need of suggestions to get them out. My only thought so far is to remove the backplate and try to get them off with more room or replace it.

Re: Stripped wheel cylinder nuts
If you are talking rear, then just drill the head off. Wheel Cylinders are only 17 bucks or less, and not worth the time to salvage.Hoppy wrote:The wheel cylinder hex nut is stripped and I need to change it, I tried vice grips with no luck and am in need of suggestions to get them out. If you are talking the front Caliper bolts Just remove the whole bracket with a 17mm I think.

Re: Stripped wheel cylinder nuts
May not be able to get a drill into position back there. If it was here I would probably use an air chisel and cut it off. Without an air chisel I think probably a Dremel with a cut-off wheel would be small enough to do the job. Go high speed with very little pressure. It's amazing what those little tools are capable of.
Good luck.
Good luck.

No there is no real room for a drill, a dremel is a good idea but what I did is using a narrow chisel & hammer I hammered the nuts loose then used a vice grip to turn them till they were off.
