Rear license plate bracket question

Post by sorite99 »

Hey guys,
New to the forum, until now haven't had a cabby since '93. What is the easiest way to remove the rear license plate bracket?
Thanks,
Chalie

First, welcome to TRF.

One question first. Are you talking about the black "tub" that streaches across the trunk lid?

If so it is a bit of an involved process, but it can be done.

there are the little plastic olders that you have to pry out from inside the trunk Like 4 of them at the top and two under the plate.

then it is usually taped with dual sided tape on the far edges.

it ia a pain because you have to go slow, but do-able.

Like I said it's involved.

If you can pop the centres out of the holders they come out easy.

The trick is how to pop the centres out.

If you can save the centres, they are usually reusuable, and that will save a couple $ each when you go to replace.

Thanks for the info. I will try to pop the centers out. I need to get this black "tub" off of there so I can address a rust issue on the left edge.
Thanks again!

Figured I'd use this old thread instead of starting a new one...

Anyone removed the tub completely and installed a plate without it? I've seen it done but can't figure out exactly how to do it. Doesn't look like there are any holes under there that would be usable for a plate. I don't really want to drill into the metal but the tub just kinda bugs me and I think the rear would look cleaner without it.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Folks have removed it then used the holes where the tub is fastened at the bottom to affix the plate You will probably need to make a bracket and then use some sticky tape to keep it from vibrating.
