Turning chrome into brushed Aluminium

Post by Calimus »

I forget where I saw it, but recently I was reading about a way to make shiny chrome look like brushed aluminium.

Reason I bring this up is that there are some things like newer coolent temp, oil pressure, volt guages that only have the chrome or black trimming on them as well as door handles (interior ones) and the like.

My personal taste is that chrome is too flashy on the interior of many A1's. However, brushed aluminium seems to look about right but it's hard to find things in that finish.

So I stubled upon the post and what the guy did was take the chrome parts and sand them with 1000gt sand paper. Now I don't know if he wet-sanded or not but he sanded in one direction (thats what gives it the brushed look) and it turned out awesome.

So, does anyone have a chrome piece that they arn't gonna use and maybe try it out? If not, I'll pick one up and give it a shot. Hrm, maybe I'll pick up a few pieces to try as I'm prone to screwing things up the first few times, lol

sounds like a good idea, but i like chrome on the inside... but only if the interior is black. i have a few bling things in my cab.
the brushed stuff would look good with a tan interior.
If you can't beat them, drop the top and pimp by 'em!
