Heater Control Panel

Post by CalAltaDubber »

A few monts back, sombody posted a good description how to replace the lighting LED in the heater control panel.

Now that I am ready to try this, do you think I can find it? Nooooo.

Can somone point me to that post? Thanks.

I found a panel that looks the same in a MK I Jetta that was sitting at the local P&P. it uses a light bulb. I have mounted it in the interm now I want to fix the one that came with the car.

No The LED in the panel is burned out. I am looking for the one where the LED in the panel is replaced.

I replaced my bulb with a 3mm 10,000 MCD led

Grind out the old bulb

Image

Cut down the plastic side to expose the connectors

Image

Solder the led to the negative lead of the led close to the top, I used a 470ohm 1/8 watt resistor.

Image

Placed the led in the socket that the
bulb sat in then bent the legs to pins. I scuffed the connector pins and tinned them then soldered the legs of the led to the pins. The Brown wire gets the negative (resistor) lead. be carefull not to let the legs get too long to interfere with the connector....

I then wrapped with a small strip of duct tape, the plug goes on and off like normal.

Hey, can I ask a basic question here. How did you can the panel apart without destroying it?

Very carefully with a X-acto.

But there is a easier way.
Cut the bulb holder off the back with a Hacksaw flush.
Grind out the bulb, replace it with LED's Then Glue it back on with J-B Weld
