Freeze Plugs

Post by 84Vert »

Freeze plug, expansion plug what ever you want to call them they are a pain. Finally got the old leaking one out. After an hour of trying to pound the new one in I gave up and bought the rubber ones. Of course the ones they had do not fit. These are under the exhaust manifold, what is the trick to putting new ones in without having to drop the exhaust?

Freeze them for a day in the freezer,
Get a dowel or a Socket that is the same size
Use a little thin oil on the inside lip, you want to clean the lip of the block.
Take it out of the freezer, and using the socket Dowel or PVC pipe connector smack it in.Being ICE Cold the Metal will constrict.Once you snack it in and it warms up it will be tighter than a Potitician holding tax monies.

Thanks Brian, I will try that. I wish there was more room under there to swing a hammer
