Post by oshwass1969 »

im sure by now the people who have heard all my complaints about my 87 cabriolet are probley saying "sell the piece of crap already!" but im in love with my vdubby (that could be the next song hit...lol) anyway todays complaint is (number 432)...the notorious coughing or hiccups. When my car has been running more then 20 min it starts to bog and almost dies so i replaced both fuel pumps yesterday and thought that was cure....NOPE NO LUCK... but i guess my car knows when i have a few extra dollars jingiling in my pocket and decides a way for me to spend it on her...Now what do i do???? :banghead: :banghead: :| any help would be appriciated and dont tell me to buy a FOR SALE sighn cause i already did and its standing by!! :?

I understand puting more work and money into a car that's not "worth it." I think most of us on this forum have put more $ just in parts than the book value of the car. It would help to know year of the car but in my experience if the car starts acting up once warmed up it is usually ignition related. I had a set of Bosch wires that looked great but I checked them with the meter and they were junk. If the car is Digi replace your blue temp sensor I have gone through 3 in a year. Also how recent are plugs dist.cap and rotor? Did you change fuel filter with the pumps?

its a 87 and yup changed plugs (bosh), wires (accell) dist cap and rotor, oxgen sensor, timing belt, oil on a regular basis, oil filter too (good kind not cheap kind) fuel pumps (both) air filter( K&N), altanator, red top battery and a couple other sensors too. This only happens when i drive more then 20 min then she acts up and it also happend on a full tank. as soon as i let go of the accelarator she act right again untill i push her hard again..cornering too. But the only thing i havent changed id the fuel filter but its only 8 months old and i only use preimium gas in her plus gas treatments. And No i would never sell her, she's my other wife...lol

I'm sure Brian will chime in shortly but he has had BAD luck with Bosch plugs. Cabby info and many others recomend NGK plugs and that is what I run. 8 months is enough time for a fuel filter to plug up given the age of the car.

ding ding ding....... Yep, got 2 sets of Bosch plugs bad out of the box........ so that was 3 out of 8.
My original issue which I discovered later, was a bad plug wire, but the shotgunning of installing new plugs with 2 bad ones threw me for a loop for a day or 3. I learned a good lesson, take your DVOM with you and measure the resistance of all the plugs before you leave the store.

Found the other bad one after about 2 hours of trying to fix a slight miss.....
