Fargin won't Start II, the sequal.

Post by Briano1234 »

Well, got to sleep at 11:30, at 1:00 I got woke up, the Green Bunny won't start.. it started then went bang, and now it won't start.
Drive 14 miles to take a look at it. The Starter spins, the Alternator spins along with the A/c belt.
The Timing Belt don't move at all The belt has proper tension on it not like it snapped.... GEE this sounds very familiar. Have car towed home.

Glad it is a non-interference engine.

Gee don't this remind me of the Crank bolt from hell.....

Stay Tuned for more exciting episodes of "Fargin Won't Start."

Is this the same 'fargin car?

I'm having trouble imagining how the accessory drive belts can move but the timing belt does not.

You and me both, and yes it is the same car....
When I heard it turn over I said this don't sound right, I saw the torque convertor spin and all the accessory belts turn... So I pulled the TC off and the Timing belt wasn't moving at all. The timing belt had proper tension and when I tried to see if it was broke, it wouldn't budge... I didn't have a 19mm to try to turn the cam...

I will try to get a Video of it doing the nasty.... as seeing is believing.....

Seriously, the t-belt belt has to have striped off all it's teeth around the crank gear, maybe the cam is seized or snapped?
Any oil showing on the dipstick? Look fresher than it should?

If the crank gear was fargin loose on the crank again, seems the accessory belts wouldn't be turning either.

Well the verdict is in: Drum roll Please.........

The Timing belt stripped the teeth off, looking at the whole belt, the Teeth are starting to separate....
Oil contamination I suspect.

Cam turns freely, no binds, no binds on the intermediate shaft or crank.
Have the valve cover gasket off, and there isn't any issues that I can see with the cam all the valves go up and down with the lobes.

Parts have already been retrieved, new Belt new tensioner, new cam seal and intermediate shaft seal. The crank seal was replaced with the timing belt on the Farging won't start thread... It don't even have 40K on it I suspect.

As soon as I got good light on the thing I saw shreds of timing belt teeth on the lower timing cover.

Ran to the Junk yard to get the Barrel Bolt tensioner for the ac belt, easier to use that that cogged gear arrangement..

It's all over pulled the cam, replace the seal, cleaned out the lifters, replaced the intermediate seal, installed the new belt, and tensioner. Fired right up, and times it. Runs pretty well.....

Didn't loosen the A/C to remove the belt, just removed the water pump pulley, and the belt slid right off...

The old timing belt was missing about 30 teeth, and the remaining teeth could be separated from the belt with a flick of the finger.
