hey guys i have been lurking around this forum for a week or so, i just picked up a 84 rabbit convertable, it has all sorts of bad gaskets and seals on the motor so i was gonna pull the motor, clean up the engine bay and get the motor leak free and reliable again. im not a VW person so i have a few questions
1: how does the downpipe on the exhaust system seperate from the header? i dont understand it haha
2: is there any write up on removing the shift linkage so i can pull the motor/trans? i got a linkage rebuild kit also
3: what is the name of the bits needed to remove the axles? im looking to pick up a set of these but idk what they are called, ill also need them to remove the head.
sorry if these are dumb questions, im not a VW guy (well still new at vw's) so im not quite used to the way they work
thanks for the help in advance

To get the "down pipe" off you need to use a muffler clamp backwards.
Shift linkage is:
for a manual:
For an automatic
The tool for the axles is a 8mm Triple square.

That's brilliant Brian. I just used a long screwdriver to pry the spring clips off. Now I have to install them, it will be a big help.Briano1234 wrote:To get the "down pipe" off you need to use a muffler clamp backwards.
