The Project Continues. UPDATED

Post by CalAltaDubber »

Well, I haven't said much latley about the project Cabby, so I thought I would pass along a couple of pictures of her progress.

I'm in no hurry, infact I don't even intend to send it out to the body shop much before the fall. Here she sits in the garage.
Image

I cleaned up the hood last week end.
Image

I have scrapped all the bondo off, to find that there isn't much rust. :D
Image

Here is a shot of the right rear, a little more corrosion here, but at least it is only surface rust.
Image

I will have to replace both fenders. I thought the right side was good, but the lower corner is too badly corroded.

Remember Save The Bunnies.

Actually I'm planning on shaving the door handles altogether.

This is my second, Topless Bunny shares the garage with this one.

Looks like you are putting some hard work into her. Keep it up. Not much has been going on at TRF HQ. Crabby Cabby is still running great, my rocco hasn't seen any work time as we've just been too busy. Rocco #2 is running like a top and as always the jetta trudges on.

Here's the update.

Post by CalAltaDubber »

Well you have heard me going on about the door for Project Save a Bunny, so I figure i'd show you what I have been up to.

Here is the first door I bought. I was grinding away and found it full of Bondo. Did I say that I hate Bondo?
Image

Here is a close up.

Image

So from there I found a new door. This one had no glass, but at least it is all metal!

Image

Once I cleaned the shattered glass out and rescued glass from the other two doors here is what I have.
Image

So on to installation,

First get the old door off.
Image

Next the new door.
Image

Add new fenders (Another tale for another time). I just bought two new ones. Note: there are no holes for marker lights 8)

Image

Here is the side view.

Image

I now just need to trim up the fenders, pull the engine and remove the windshield and it's off to the body shop.

I have been working on the shaved door handles, but I will show that later.
