YAY! Now I expect that there will be sufficient light tomorrow for some good shots.

I dont think it has a cold start problem. In fact, I am convinced that this was a factory option.
Well I started to survey the car. Kami is going to have a field day pointing out all the incorect parts. The car is an '88 but has a lit of pre 88 parts on the body.

Like I said "She Ain't Pretty".

The back is in pretty good shape.

The last owner tried to knock out a big ding in the door. Now it has a hole and needs to be replaced.
Image

Looks like this car met a few parking blocks. :? Don't ya love the mis-matched tires?
Image
The bondo and primer look worse that it is
Image

Interior is dirty, but in pretty good shape. This car has heated seats. :D

Yes this is a full scale restoration/modification project!

It has begun, I am running new vacuum lines for all the hoses because it is all defective and leaking badly.
I have re-routed it via the typical Brian/anal that I am to make it more functional and prettier. As soon as the Condensor arrives then the flush of the coolant system will begin
1. because the radiator has to be removed.
2. because I want to get rid of the rusty water that it is currently running as the main rad line from the overflow vent to the tank is on it's last legs...........

Then the repair of the a/c can continue and then the replumb of the heater contorls to re-enamble the defrost/center vent.
I am hoping that the re-route of the vac lines cleans it up, but then again with my luck....

Well one of the new parts is defective, I bought the
Black Coolant sensor, and plugged it in today,
and immediatly the engine temp went red,
what was amazing is that the engine wasn't running at all.... :(
but on a side note I know that the gauge isn't the problem....

The yellow silicone fuel/vac line looks good
on the blue car. I will post pics after I get the engine
flushed and blinged a bit.

Both are auto's, Yes I know they are not a peppy as a manual,
my white one Screamed..........but as I am getting older and
have slight trouble on my shifting leg and my arm on the
right, (It's a Stroke thing)... Autos allow me to enjoy the cabby
more, and I have my daughter that is totally un-coordinated
who is driving the Green one....
So she too can enjoy a Cabby Ride.

Kelly, you are just tyring to be nice.

But Ya it is a little ratty looking.

I started to play with it tonight, but I won't be able to get serious until spring, when I can evict the wife's car from the garage.

I tell ya what, it's nice to see some projects here on the TRF again.

CalAlt, looks like you have some work ahead, but as always, I'm sure you will do a bang up job so I can't wait to see the progress.

Brian, you picked up creampuff, but I know you will have the car half torn down improving everything and having way too much fun with the gold paint. As always, can't wait to see the pics.

Well today I got a little froggy, replaced the black temp sensor, and immediatly the gauge went full hot.....(bad sender bad bad sender) the car key was on but not running and the car was sitting cold as my wifes heart...

Then I flushed the Radiator and replaced the upper and lower hoses and the thermostat.
Installed the new jug.

Changed the oil the po had a mahn filter on it, and I was pushing 2 bar at 1000rpm. Changed the oil to 20w50 and slick 50'ed it, now I have 1 bar at 1000 rpm.....

Well I heard what I thought was a vacuum leak and it is my primary pump whinning worse than my kids at a toy store. So.... Ordered a transfer pump and screen, the only pump I don't have, and will replace that tomorrow.

Painted my balls gold, and the clear coat frosted them... that really frosted my balls if you know what I mean. My fault as I couldn't find my sealer (I thunk i runned out).

So tomorrow I will replace the transfer pump and teh filter then take it for a spin and get it emissioned.........

Well I got up at 7:30 and ran to dunking donuts to take a doz to my muffler shop along with Joe to go....

Yesterday I finally got it to the emissions test which it failed so today was a new cat and a retest... Seems that when he cut the cat off I had two resonators.... :) this cat was missing everything..

I passed the retest and I found the cause of the burning plastic smell... There on the down pipe shroud was an old Radiator return cap melting to the pipe....It is amazing how the Nox will go to almost nothing once a cat has a cat in it.

Scheduled for today are fixing the burned out lights in the dash removing the Cassette holder, and seeing if the defroster servo is really bad. I may get froggy and install the cup holders in the car... but as I have to pull the door cards anyway to remove the drivers door, I may defer that to next week.

I replaced the in-tank pump, and it had a date stamped on it of June 92, so that was the original pump.....geeee.

The collant temp gauge don't work yet, and that will be taken care of when I remove the Dash for the servo if I have to.

Soooooo off to work I go.

I decided to remove the drivers door and fix the hinges.
No big deal right, get out the 12" cresent a level and my
5 foot cheater....

Well after I hung the door, it closes and locks and the
window was adjust to meet the seal.

So I decided to use my Dink-King and pop the dent out a
wee bit so I could put on the moulding.

Gingerly I worked on it from the bottom to the top,
then I got an unexpected surprise.....

I pulled a nickel sized piece of paint and bondo off the door
so surprise another carfax unreported ding....

So I colored the missing piece with a blue sharpie... and I will
go to the yard and aquire a door, sand it and have it
painted to match. Since either the door has been sprung a
couple of times or has had previous repairs that weren't kosher.

But I got all the bulbs replaced on the dash that were burnt out,
removed the cassette holder from the console, and hung my new
cup holder on the drivers card.

Then when I awoke today my new a/c condensor has arrived..
The final (yeah right) part looks to be a good oem fit.
As there is a freeze warning for most of Georgia I ain't gonna be
needing it too soon.... but getting it mounted this week will allow
me to get the radiator card cut for the top of the radiator.

Sorry bout the size of the pics, I'll make em smaller in future.

It will be a while before I can get into serious rebuild mode, I will have to wait for spring so I can kick the wife's car out of the garage. She doesn't like scraping the windshield and wiping snow off in the mornings for some reason.

Any how, that gives me a few months to plan, aquire parts and so on.

In the meantime, I have discovered the cold start problem, one of the former owners has cut the electrical connector for the cold start Valve right out of the harness. The valve is probably plugged too, why else would some (can't think of a discriptive word that is clean enough to print here) person do that?

Hey Christine, maybe we should create a new form for Restoration/Overhauling? We could call it the "Save a Bunny Forum".
