New 1982 Owner.

Post by reesepbc »

Hiya, I just bought a fairly clean 1982 RABBIT. Her name is Jessica. (I like the joke.) Silver and a pic should be on this post. I have already replaced the battery and alternator and run a new ground from the alternator to the battery. Fun times indeed. Daily driving her 50 miles or so. I have questions but not in the intro thread.

Well hello and welcome to TRF.

Nice picture of the car. The BBS RA wheels look great on it.

Thanks, I kinda like the wheels but they are 13"s and bald. I really need more grip on the road. I am enjoying driving her, been a blast to have a car I can actually work on.

Thanks for the reply on the engine forum.

Welcome to Cabbyhood, it is worse than Heroin.
13" wheels I remember those days on my Rabbit......Never paid more than 25 dollars a tire mounted...I was known as the 25 dollar tire guy.
You put a set of 14's on the car and you will be amazed at the difference in the feel..... :)
That and a Dual down pipe or header.... ZIPPY..

13's Wow. I have a set of RAs on one of my cabbys, but they are 15's

I'd go with the 15's like you pointed out, simply because they just don't make decient performance tires in 14 inch any more.

The wheels you pointed out are nice and I think will accent your car nicly.

I do admit I like the colour of your car, It's almost the same as my '87.

You can see both mine at this site http://phils-garage.com/Entrance/Enterance.html OK it's a shamless plug for my web site. :)

Well, sad to say but Jessica passed away. I did manage to get 800 for her on the new addition. Not sure if I can still call myself a topless rabbit owner as I now have a 2000 VW Cabrio in blue.

Close enough. What happened to Jessica?

I guess technically Jessica still exists, but she was just getting too unsafe for me to drive. The steering wheel had a little play in it when I bought her but now you can turn it almost a quarter turn before the car responded. Still had lots of electrical issues that were a pain to chase down, and she shimmied alot any time I had her above 52 mph.

It was just time to get a safer car. The cabrio hasn't told me it's name yet but I'm thinking it's a TARDIS. It needs a couple things but they are all not nessecary. It needs the auxillary air pump worked on and a new vaacum locking pump. My wife likes it so much we're looking for a black one for her.
