Almost That Time

Have you done so much to the car today that it just doesn't fit into one section, or are you too damn lazy to split it all up? Either way, this is the section for you.

Well I won't comment on driving my Car Friday/Saturday/Sunday, and today Topless. I did call my Brother with -15 WindChills on Saturday while driving around, and he told me, and I quote "Eff-you" then click.

I hear you.

However its been really warm here in the west. I had the sun roof open and the windows down on the TDI (not the same as topless but it's the next best thing).

I've been riding my brothers that live near the great lakes. I heard today is the first day they have been above freezing this year.

I get the same sort of comments too.

Cant wait for the several inches of salt to be washed off the roads after the giant black mounds of plowed snow and ice melts!

Well It's Easter weekend and I brought the two Bunnies home.
Posh Bunny sat out the winter rather well. I should have her crusin' rather quickly.
Topless Bunny on the other hand has an issue that needs to be settled. I sort of noticed coolant under it a couple of times last year, figuring the water pump was about to go. Well... after sitting in the garage one night, I found a puddle of coolant and the reservoir is empty. Good news, it's not the water pump. Bad news, looks like the rad has a big hole in the bottom.

Off to Auto Valu in the morning.

Trim the fan shroud easier to get in and off.

Better the Radiator than the pump,, easier to change.

Well I changed the rad out on Topless Bunny and I can say the old one was just plane worn out. It had lots of leaks.
I didn't need to trim the fan shroud, I just removed it with the old rad and it bolted right onto the new before installation. Maybe because I don't have AC in my cars, things are just plane simpler.

I also took the opportunity to manufacture the shroud caps for the top of the rad.

Pictures in a few days.

First I took the drawing Kami has on Cabby-Info, and made a template out of Bristol board. I noticed one of the measurements was about 1/8" too narrow. So I made a second template which fit mush better.

I used the template to create the new shroud caps (one for each car) out of 1/8" steel. I want them to last, since the original ones were only cardboard, I think these will.

Finally I coated the shroud caps with PlastiDip. And installed them.
I'm sure the cars are running cooler with them installed.
