fuel pump info please

Have you done so much to the car today that it just doesn't fit into one section, or are you too damn lazy to split it all up? Either way, this is the section for you.

In-tank fuel transfer pumps were not factory-installed until 1984.5 (the tin-top USA-built Rabbits, including the GTIs, did not have in-tank pumps). Installing a used fuel pump should be a temporary fix... best to invest in a new one (the in-tank pump is far cheaper than the main the pump).

As Kammy says, it is only 50 bucks on Ebay.

Thank u for the info. I had my Cabby act up on me yesterday. She started to run rough. I pulled over to check the blue temp sensor and that was not the problem. When I got her started again the fuel pump was making a bad noise. Thoght it was the in tank pump and got home and found it is the other one. Well I looked at my 81 Rabbit 4 dr to see if I could borrow it. It would take modification to make that pump go in the cabby and I want to keep things intact on both cars. I am just going to replace both pumps. The in tranfer pump is a little loud and when I disconect it the way the car runs does not change at all. I am also going to replace the fuel filter. Now I am going to need 4 tires alignment and both fuel pumps to make it to Bugapaloza. Oh well just one of the joys of Cabby ownership :-o

The 90ish cabbies used a different pump.
The earlier ones won't work.
