Bent Cabby

Have you done so much to the car today that it just doesn't fit into one section, or are you too damn lazy to split it all up? Either way, this is the section for you.

Insurance companies, want ot pay out as little as they can.
Some adjusters get a cut on what they save the company.

The KBB and Edmunds are about what they all started me on when both of my cabbies got in a wreck that were other fault.

Now here is where you have them by the shorts.
They hit you due to Negligence.

I have been hit in a MK1 3 times.

mk1 rabbit diesel 10 years old with 150K
The first was a person running a stop sign and hitting the driver side fender.
Insurance Company said well give you 500.
I said mmmm no
The said the damage is goign to make that a total and well there is no resale on it so take the 500 and be done with it.
I said no.

I then called my insurance company and started to file uninsured motorist.
When the other company found out, they ponied up to 2000 to have the damages repaired.

I stopped for a yellow light, the lady behind didn't.

1990 White Cabby. All the major systems had been replaced, and I had receipts for the parts.
All that was left was the paint.

They offered 1500. I said no that is a tad low. had about 118k
I went out to KBB and Edmunds, got the prices on all 3 retail wholesale and trade in.
Went out to auto trader, ebay and the samba. Got all the prices for all the cars in like condition,
6000-500, and averaged them all together came out to 4500, and I said okay here is the starting point. we settled for
5300.

1992 Green Cabby, Daughter Rear Ended Jeep. (not her fault).

They said that they (notice they as in Insurance Company, not mine) was going to total the car.
The adjuster came out, and I had all the receipts, for all the work, and the price that I had paid originally for the car.
They came back with 2200, I said no.
Went the autotrader, KBB, Edmunds, and Craigslist Plus having the receipt for the payout on the white cabby. I said, that is the Starting point.
So they said they would fix it.... :)
2 weeks later they stated that they were unable to obtain parts and were going to total it for the 3200 in damages, I said,, no, but if I find the parts, they could buy them from me? to which they said yes.
Bought a 89 from impound for 250, sold the parts to "Allstate" for 350, and kept the car.
Sold some of the parts for about 300, as in Trim, tail lights and what not....

Now, I did have to argue and stand my ground, but all told I got what I wanted in price, and in satisfaction. I wasn't out to "screw" any one I wanted fair and reasonable compensation each time.

Horace Mann, ( had a relation that worked for them in data processing) used to sell insurance to Teachers and Doctors only. So now
I don't know to whom they sell, but don't get "Dicked Around" be sure that you talk to a "Supervisor" and use a recording device, and tell them that you are recording the conversation.... and they start to "tow" the line then you have them on record. Do not cuss or swear while recording as that is a big no-no... You will be amazed when they are directly under the Gun. Also get them to slowly state their name and Position in the company.....

HOLD YOUR GROUND, you don't have to settle on their terms, They have to settle on yours.

Gave up the bad language thing awhile ago, but thanks for the heads up. Good
advice as usual and I appreciate all you guys and your input. I called Allstate
(my insurance co.) and gave them the information, said they would look into it.

This may provide some inspiration:

I got lucky just the other day -- I got rear-ended by a lady in a Subaru, in stop and go traffic, but the bumper heights matched and there was no damage.

Ended up with $1,400.00 and I keep the car. I paid $1,250.00 for it 6 years and 80,000 miles ago. It's not what I wanted but I can deal. :|

Sixes, that sounds a lot closer to fair then the initial offer. It just sucks you have to threatent hem within an inch of their lives in order to get any insurance company to do the right thing. :rmad:

I know you said you wouldn't fix it in order to go the salvage title way, has that changed? I have no clue if the body work would eat up all of the $1400 or not. You could buy another cabby and save yours as a parts car which is to bad because yours is very mechanically sound. Good luck with whatever you end up doing.

It was ugly before and I'm pretty sure it's still ugly. I'm driving it until the wheels fall off.

I'll fix it the best I can and make it not so embarassing. Course, it's been looking a little ragged around the edges for quite some time now.

nothing wrong with that. You have a lift, give the bottom a real good undercoat before winter.

Or, drive it over a freshly oiled road, that hasn't been rocked yet, and at 60 mph, where ever the tar hits, you will have the best undercoat , because you will get undercoated tar where ever water usually gets sprayed..... :) :) :)
