Bent Cabby

Have you done so much to the car today that it just doesn't fit into one section, or are you too damn lazy to split it all up? Either way, this is the section for you.

I never meant to keep this one this long anyway. When I bought it i knew the body was less than perfect and now it's confirmed. I'll find another one at some point and finalize my conversion. Just pisses me off that I had a straight, although rusty, cabriolet and now I don't.

Nice, I need another set of alloys for one of the girls cars for the winter. PA isn't that far away.

Thanks for looking out for me, I think I'll wait at least till spring to start looking for a replacement. Winter
brings way to many UH OH's to cars up here.

Unless of course somebody happens upon a bright yellow one with a perfect body. I may travel
a good distance for that.

It needs a little TLC and a 5spd, but here you go Six:

Also, I got a line on a Free Cabby down in Bath, ME. My dad sent me some phone pics and it is
a little ruff, but if they still have it by the time Christmas break comes I am stealing my dad's
truck and a flat bed trailer (my dad has access to one) going down to fetch it. From the pics
he sent I know it is a pre 1985 since it has the Rabbit Fuel Injection tag on the trunk. Its rolling
on 13's and is missing the fender flares, shifter, and some misc. interior bits, but it should/could
make a good parts car or if the body is good a good shell for a possible transplant.

Yeah, if I were still living in the snow belt I'd put my snow tires on steel wheels, and save the alloys for summer. Preferably after pothole season had ended. ;)

Gull, this is the north east. Pot hole season ends in the winter time. (they fill up with snow and ice)

In Michigan it starts when the first good freeze heaves up all the expansion joints, and doesn't end until the ground dries out in late spring.

I could convert an auto but I have done that in the past and
don't wish to do it for free. Nice find though.

I've actually been thinking that if I ever have to replace my Cabby, I'd like to get an automatic. My fiancée doesn't like to drive stick and it'd be nice if she could use the car occasionally. Plus clutch-bumping a stick shift through Seattle stop-and-go traffic is no fun. I don't think I'd want to attempt a conversion, though, unless I had a garage to work in and a complete donor car to pull parts from. Trying to make sure I got all the right bits from a junkyard would be a lot of trouble.

An automatic would not stand up to my abuse. I drive my cabby like I stole it every day.

I always heard they were actually pretty sturdy...I think I heard somewhere that they used the same basic planetary gear unit as in the automatic Bus and Vanagon, could be wrong about that though.
