Candy Apple Red Cabby Swapped to G60 Engine in one weekend!

Have you done so much to the car today that it just doesn't fit into one section, or are you too damn lazy to split it all up? Either way, this is the section for you.

Candy Apple Red Cabby Swapped to G60 Engine in one weekend!

Post by Mario »

hi there,

long time ago (about 1.5 year) i thought the brakes of the mk1 could be better,
so i decided. to buy bigger ones. in advance of the coming new engine (g60)
so i bought, the complete brake set from a G60 :D

here are the pics of progress yesterday evening

thursday we are going to replace the main brak cylinder and presure limiters for the discs in the back (3/20)

so in front the callipers are Girling 54 with 280mm disc, and in the back will be girling 38 with 226mm disc :D

The difference :

G60 brake conversion is a smart move. All the extra stopping power and the ability to retain the 4x100 bolt pattern. Due to not being able to see the pictures from work (damned firewalls) I would ask if you are upgrading to a larger brake booster as well? if not, while not exactly required, I would certainly reccomend moving up to a 16v brake booster and the prop valves as well just for a more solid overall package.

Hi calimus,
it's a really good upgrade!,
but to answer you question about the brakebooster and prop valves.. yes i'm changing them
the booster is a 22mm booster from the G60/VR6, and gives enought pressure.
also the prop valves are 3/20(bar) and not the 3/15 from the scirocco, while the 3/15 from the scirocco are lighter, because, scirocco is lighter in de back of the car, and the cab is heavier in the back.. so 3/20 gives more pressure, but not to much
hope you understand my story :)

Looks almost factory.... I like the way it sits and the "pro" way it came out.

that was the meaning also, for the swap., that it would look, that it is original stock :)

tomorrow a friend of mine is coming here, to adjust the timing and finetuning. so that i can go with the cabby to germany next weekend.. (it's a meeting with more then, 160 cabby's )

thnx calimus.!

so i drove the g60 now for 14/1500 km's.. and its actiually a VERY good and powerfull engine in a cabby!!..
it's nice to have some horsepower for spare when needed;)

so totally happy with it !,
the next i will do, is completely change the oil.. incl filter. because it was a complete overhauled engine.
then i change back to 10w50..

greetings
