What can happen when the Voltage Regulator goes

Have you done so much to the car today that it just doesn't fit into one section, or are you too damn lazy to split it all up? Either way, this is the section for you.

What can happen when the Voltage Regulator goes

Post by Briano1234 »

Was driving to the geek store to get a 20" TFT FLat Panel that has a 5ms refresh rate it was on sale for 229... I started to leave the store I noticed that my tach wasn't working.

To add insult to injury the Alternator was running at 12V down from 14.

Then I had to stop and while I restarted the car, the Alt was low as it was before but no instrument lights at all.

No oil light, No water level level light blinky at start no oil light and no turn signal light, how ever the Hi-beam led worked fine.

All the fuses are good.

Swap in a new Voltage Regulator, that resolved the flakey alternator it is back to 14V 120 Amps yes 120amp..

So what did I learn, That if the voltage Regulator goes bad the wrong way it will take out the voltage stabilizer in the dash killing all the biasing for the leds and guages I listed above.... Only the hi-beam escapes the wrath of the Stabilizer.

Thankfully I have removed a few of those from dashs in the yard... Cheap fix but a real Pain in the ass as to taking out multiple things. Just so you all would know.

Sounds like the Voltage stabilizer was Brian luck too!

When my voltage regulator died a few years back, all that happened is the car was being powered from the battery, The red idiot battery light came on, and the voltmeter went to 12V.

My luck was, it was -30 degrees and I was enroute to Edmonton.

Are you sure your servo's aren't leaking a wee bit?

Brian, it's all good man, no worries. An yea, I know it's not the servo's. I made some block offs for the distributor and put those on to be sure. I very well may try to clean and vaso the thing, I have 3 to play with now, so I've at least got a chance to get one of the right.

very nice monitor. An I bet it cleared up all that space.
