Replacing the Seat release strap

Have you done so much to the car today that it just doesn't fit into one section, or are you too damn lazy to split it all up? Either way, this is the section for you.

Replacing the Seat release strap

Post by Briano1234 »

On my old bunny the seat back release strap broke, and I had a make do one that was jsut a piece of velcro looped until I found one in the wrecking yard. But as my new cabby was devoid of this I have got the fix.

Next time that you are at the wreckers, look for the rubber straps that hold the vacuum res to the hood, or hte jack...

Remove the hooks and clean it.

Thread it through the fist hole then onto the finger and presto you have a replacement strap for your seat release.
It should last a bit, and it is a Genuine VW part.... :)

I actually bought the replacment cables a few years back. I don't remember the cost, but I do remember that it wasn't that expensive.

The rear seat release strap broke on mine, too. I didn't like the plastic strap to begin with -- too flimsy. I took some braided steel cable, crimp sleeves, and a key ring and made a new pull ring to release them. Nice and sturdy.
