Gas Mileage

Have you done so much to the car today that it just doesn't fit into one section, or are you too damn lazy to split it all up? Either way, this is the section for you.

Tony I have a spread sheet that I wrote to track fuel consumption, would you like me to send it to you?

All you have to do is write the KMs, and how much fuel you put in the car at each fill up. It does the rest.

but 24 MPG sounds low for some reason. Are you using the imperial Gallon or the smaller US gallon?

really depends on how hard you are on the throttle. Any modifications to the car?

You may need to replace the o2 sensor. If it goes bad, the fueling defaults to full rich. The o2 sensor light will NOT turn on - it will ONLY turn on every 30k miles.

From the 1988 & 1989 Volkswagen Cabriolet brochures:

MPG estimates:
Manual: 24 city/27 hwy.
Auto: 22 city/24 hwy.

Range in miles:
Manual: 345 city/441 hwy.
Auto: 317 city/386 hwy.

MPG will vary depending upon your driving style, gasoline used (try a higher octane), mileage on the engine, etc. :)

'88+ Cabs do not have the OXS light (VW eliminated the counter box...finally).

I thought the light turns on at 60K intervals. :?:

Since cars here in Canada have their odometers in km and fuel is sold by the litre, the question is what has Tony used for his conversion to Gallons.

1 Imperial Gallon = 4.54 Litres, while
1 US Gallon = 3.9 Litres (or something very close).

If Tony converted his fuel qty to US gallons, the car seems to be in line with the figures that Kami has posted. whereas if he has converted to Imperial Gallons (the old standard here) his milage would be in fact low.

It also explains why all cars from the US would strangly seem to improve their fuel consumption when they crossed into Canada in the days before we switched to metric measurement.

Using my own car as an example, I use the metric version which is expressed as Litres/100km. My car uses somewhere between 7.5 to 8 Litres/100km

I used the U.S. Gallons. but with imperial it's 27 MPG.

So I'm good then seeings how I match the brochure.
There are no mods to my car except a header that looks really old.

New 92 digi auto 26 @80 top down... I need to tweak it but it is running.

I get around 600 KMs out of a 40L tank on the highway....and that's cruising at 130 + (KM/H). Strangely enough, I get better mileage cruising at 130 than I do at 110.

I don't find that wierd.

Isn't the speed limit on the highway in Sask. only 100 km/h?

I get about 24-26 mpg US with a basically stock and extremely well tuned CIS setup. Of course when I drive my cabby I...enjoy it... if you know what i mean

My A2 MFA cluster shows me on the interstate at a 65mph cruise at about 30mpg. Getting into it makes the average fall as low as 22.

I have the same year model Cabby as you do. Current MPG is 26.5 (average) for city driving using the recommended 93 Octane (RON). Hi way MPG is at 30.2 (average) .
