Another Winter Storm Watch?

Did you see something that was supposed to be a car at one time and now looks like the frankenstein monster? If so take some pics of that fugly thing and post them here. This also goes for any other "rice" you may find littering the streets or shows.

Well, here is a good place to talk about a winter safety kit for your car.

Here are a few things that I keep in my car during the winter:

1 pr work gloves (lined if possible );
Small shovel (those folding army ones that you can find in a surplus store are best);
Blanket (or sleeping bag);
Bag of hard candy;
Empty tin can;
Candle;
Matches; and
Bag of kitty litter (really).

Most of the items I listed are pretty straight forward. But some need a small explanation.

The tin can is simply to hold the candle when lit. Believe it or not, the heat from a single candle is enough to prevent you from freezing, even at extreme cold temps.

The kitty litter is to put down for traction when stuck. It is also bio-degradable.

Did you forget the Dr. Jack, and Dr. Williams... :)

Hopefully if I got stuck I would be in Walking distance to a gas station.... I don't drive out on the open roads as much any more.

The Space Saver Blankets of mylar are really effective at retaining body warmth. They are the most useful thing I ever carried in the Arctic, ok I also carried a .38, a 30.06, and a 18 inch knife....

Yes those space saver blankets are great (until your done and have to fold it up).

In these parts a .38 or a 30.06 would get one in big trouble (gun laws). Mind you in places like Resolute Bay, it is wise to carry a 303, but that's north of the Artic Circle.

Too funny. we went out in the thick of it lastnight, but in the trusty TDI. Lots of cars off in ditches and such, but not really anyone else actively out on the road. Took about a 20 mile trip through town and few areas and then came back home. Didn't take any pics though, figured there are more than enough of those on the interwebs for folks to get the idea.
