CONVERTIBLE TOP GROUP BUY!!!

Post by kamzcab86 »

Since VWVortex is so anal about its group buy policies, a gracious member over there has started the top group buy on his own and off of Vortex. I'm helping him out by spreading the word! (So some of you may see this message a few times :D ).

If you are interested in getting in on the group buy with CabrioWorld.com, post up here:
1. Your Cab's year
2. Canvas or vinyl?
3. Headliner?
4. Insulation pad?
5. Cables: Side only? Rear only? All of 'em?
6. Timeframe of when you need the top or will be able to buy the top

Once a list has been generated, the info will be compiled and forwarded to CabrioWorld who will then offer up prices, etc. Once the details have been squared away, we'll make the group buy details public and you can purchase the top at that time (and probably for a limited time).

This is for Mk1 and Mk3 Cabs.

So, who's interested?? :D :D

(P.S. Do not post a thread about this over on Vortex or the powers that be over there will throw a holy fit  ).

Can we get any idea of price? For example $150 if 5 people buy, $120 if 10 buy. That sort of idea!! Would maybe help some decide if they had a clue!! Not sure how many but speaking for myself would this include Canadian purchases?
Mike

1986 Cab
Black Canvass ( I think)
Black Headliner (do they come in black?)
I currently have a Blue top (crap) with white liner
"Timeframe" End of May at the earliest for me my "contract" at work is up end of April. So anything from this point on is a wish list kinda thing.
I think I'll take a chance with my old cables.

you can't reuse the side cables, but they're cheap (like $15-20 for the pair), you'll want to reuse the rear cable if you can, since it's like $100 (or $5 if you make your own at a hardware store like i did since mine was rusted through =] )

Yes, my thread was sent to the infamous Black Hole. It is, however, acceptatble to put something in your signature line.

If anyone is thinking about replacing their top, this would be a good opportunity to jump on a good deal from a good company. I'm glad they are willing to work with us Cabby owners...

It appears that more info will be needed on the volume of orders and what type before CabrioWorld will determine what kind of discount to apply.
so for now this is a feeler, I believe the last time they allowed a group buy it was with 20 or so orders. But I think that was just for Canvas tops, not the other goodies.

You can help by spreading the word out to anyone you know who might be needing a new top-but just be careful how you do it on the 'tex.

Unfortunately, I won't know what kind of deal we get until Stephen emails me the info, which won't be available until a list of what people need is sent to CabrioWorld. The previous group buys/discounts have been for canvas tops only. So hopefully, for those of us wanting vinyl, maybe they'll give us a deal if more than just the top is ordered. Right now this really is more like a "feeler" to see who is interested (Mk1/Mk3) and what type of tops they want. The more people interested usually results in better deals; however, I'd guess (and this is only my guess, so don't take my word for it) that the "deal" would be somewhere between 10-20% discount off the original price(s). But hey, any discount I'll take!; especially since Uncle Sam wants my money on April 15th

Anyway, I've sent yours and Jimmy's info off to Stephen.

Open the top half way and you'll be able to see the pad. The "silk" cover is what usually gets eaten away; if it's still in good shape, no sense in spending the money. On the other hand, I'm thinking: top and headliner are being replaced which will last 10+ years, but will the 19-year-old insulation last another 10 years? I'm betting not (in my case), so while the top is apart, might as well play it safe and have all 3 layers done at one time  .

I need to do this anyway so I may as well get in on it.

1. Your Cab's year 1990
2. Canvas or vinyl? Vinyl
3. Headliner? No
4. Insulation pad? Yes
5. Cables: Side only? Rear only? All of 'em? Side only
6. Timeframe of when you need the top or will be able to buy the top Whenever

Thanks for the opportunity and I hope this works out, it's just the push I need to do it over the rest of the projects I've got.

Sounds too good to be true. What is $110.00 in Canadian equal to in U.S. currency?
