Need some advice

Post by Autonut »

Will the parts off an 1984 MK1 Volkswagen Cabriolet / Rabbit fit my 1980? I have a chance to buy this one. The guy started to restore it but gave up. It is now in parts.

Thanks
Doug

For the most part, yes.

Looks like it has AC. Is the AC working?

Also, someone has changed the grill, fenders and rad support (square headlight mod). If you are looking to make it road worthy, check for signs of front end accident damage. Other than that, they are pretty much the same car.

:(

Body- and interior-wise, everything will swap. Mechanically, things are slightly different, but still "swapable". The '84 uses CE1 electrics; that's probably the biggest difference (if it's an '84.5, it has a different fuel tank/pump setup too).

Well that deal fell though. I found it on a on-line buy and sell site. When I e-mailed him all I got back was one liner responses.

1st e-mail - Question: Do you still have this car?
Answer: Yea :D

2nd e-mail - Question: Do you have a price in mind? I own a 1980 and I am looking for a parts car.
Answer: Make me an offer. :?

3rd e-mail - Well, I guess it depends on what kind of shape it is in. If the parts I'm looking for are useful to me. Also if it runs and the motor is good or not. Maybe you could send some pictures of the interior and body. Where is the car? I'm in Belleville, Ontario.
Answer: Well what parts do you need ? :screwy:

4th e-mail - I'm looking to buy the whole car.
The guy never bothered to e-mail me back. I guess he just doesn't want to sell it. :banghead:
