Circle Yer Wagens 2002

Post by kuklaki »

For those of you who are in the SE, or looking to take a quickie vacation to the SE, AVWA's "Circle Yer Wagens" show is coming up soon- October 5 & 6th- in Sevierville, TN (this is the Gatlinburg area, y'all).

This show has been mostly aircooled, but has progressively increased in it's water-cooled entrants. It is a great show if, like me, you are a big fan of all VW's.

Be prepared to camp out there, or if you prefer a little more pampering, you can stay in town. Either way, it is fun for everyone!

For more information on the show, you may visit AVWA's website http://www.avwa.com/

This year's show was a little slower paced than previous the previous year. Calimus did take third place in the Watercooled Stock category with his 1988 Scirocco.

Also, a bunny truck came very near winning the burnout-it came down to a tie-breaker and he was edged out by a Beetle.

My Cabriolet was in attendance, and got a "nice car" comment from the announcer of the show, as well as a "clean the interior" comment, as I so rudely drove through the crowd after the stereo contest.

Here is are some of the pics of the Bunny Truck burnout.

To be properly done, the car should be stabilized by chains or other device, preferably not people.

Then you drop the clutch, and burn, baby, burn. He who makes the most smoke, wins. Often, tires are blown during this. And invest in plenty of air freshener, since that burnt rubber smell will be with you for a while.

I only made it to one show last year. Work kept me away cause all the shows were on Sundays. This year I hope to make it to more. There are 3 or 4 in Calgary, Alberta plus there are a couple in Edmonton, Alberta too. There is also The Great Canadian in Vancouver but I don't think I'll make it to that one.

Showing in the Great White North

Post by kuklaki »

Hope that you do make it to more shows this year. If you are entering, let us know how you did. Would also love to see pics to see what our neighbors in the North are doing with their rides.

My car is in the members ride. Ofcourse the pics are just after i got it. So it's lower and different wheels now. Again, lack of camera sucks.

To tell the truth, I enjoy the smaller local shows much better than big shows, though there really are not too many large VW shows within driving distance from here.
The problem with the large shows is that so many people put down the cars on display, whereas the smaller shows everyone is pretty friendly and always willing to give advise or just talk about the cars.
