Forum Upgrade

Post by Calimus »

It's that time folks. It's been a while, but it's finally time to upgrade the forum software. This one may take me a bit to do though as this isn't a normal quick update. This jumps to a whole new version, conversion of the database and I'm sure some bugs that I will have caused over the years of customizing the forums. So, I'm going to try and do some test runs and I'll let you know exactly when I'll be doing the full on upgrade to TRF. Stay tuned

I'm going to try and test the upgrade process tonight. I've backed up TRF and have re-created it in a test environment so that if something screws up, it doesn't cause a real outage. This will help me to better judge how it's going to go. The upgrade when done, should make things a bit nicer. A big step in the right direction will be a built in extensions manager so that I don't have to do so much direct code manipulation for changes I want to make. Hopefully I'll have a target date for the upgrade i the next 24 hours

Oh, just to follow up on this, the initial test didn't go as expected. I've since made some other adjustments and the last test worked out really well. So, I'm going to do a few more dry runs and then if all goes well, the upgrade will happen. Hopefully sometime this week. Keep your eye's peeled for it.

Well, as you can see, I finally managed to perform the forum upgrade. As always let me know if you find something that isn't working correctly. I do have some things to shore up and I will get to them (Like a site logo). Hopefully in the next few days I'll get a few more things done around here and make this place a bit more inviting.

No sir I'm not finished. There's some things on the backend that I'm working on and then I have to see if I can find a theme that I like better than this standard white/blue one.

Thx Juan. Hope to be able to redo many things around here through the remainder of this year and then breath new life back into this site.

Any plans of getting a nice image at the top instead of the forum default?

Plans yes, graphical talent, hell no, lol. Gotta either let Mrs TRFadmin re-hone her graphic skills, or find someone that already has theirs sharpened.
