Re: 84 cabby not running, vacuum?

I'm with Gull here. Frequency valve inop. will give you exactly these symptoms. Located on the backside of the airbox. Small Bosch style plug. Check with key on for vibrations/buzzing from the valve. If it is, move on. If it isn't then pull the plug and check for power, should be at least battery vo...

Re: Jetta Update

I was so scared when I did it, I can't even tell you.
Hasn't been that bad. Course the wife has picked up
a lot of the slack. I had a $7,000.00 increase on the
net last year and this year is starting out stronger. If
you can swing it, do it.

Re: Jetta Update

Don't know, need to check. I literally have not had time to get
400 yards to the mailbox. Business is nuts.

Re: Jetta Update

You can get by without it too. Turn the rack all the way to one side and
remove boot. You can usually get a pair of large pliers or even the correct
wrench in between the control arm and the subframe. Did it for many years.
Now I have a tool. Or I am one.....

Re: Jetta Update

Good, I would not want to sell somebody a bad one.
I have actually never seen one fail. There is a 94 in
my lot with 385,000 showing and alt. is still strong.

Re: Jetta Update

Do you just need a new alternator cause it's not pretty?

If I sent you a bad alternator then I can ship another one.

Re: The past week in Car repiar

As always...any part can fail at any time. I'm doing a waterpump in a 4 year old Toyota that only has 77,0000 on it tonight.

Re: The past week in Car repiar

My understanding is that only in extreme cold weather is it generally a problem. Chicago would probably qualify. In my opinion the Beetle is easier than the MkIII vehicles. Remove the filter, disconnect the two coolant lines, unscrew the large nut that holds the cooler on and it's in your hand. If y...

Re: The past week in Car repiar

The replacement o-rings are made of better material. You can tell the difference by looking for the two locating protrusions on the inside diameter of the o-ring. If they are not there then don't use it.

Re: The past week in Car repiar

Lost all oil pressure in my wife's Lexus last week, defective WIX oil filter, never again. While I was fixing that, had the Beetle idling in the dead bay so that FBG could have a warm ride to work. When she left I looked over and saw the 6" oil slick it left behind. Ran out the door and flagged...

Re: The past week in Car repiar

My oldest daughter waits until 15 minutes into the Patriots game to call and tell me BOTH front tires (read 17" brand new Kumho's) are flat on her Jetta. She's 5 minutes from where she works (they have a compressor) and 5 minutes from home. Tells me they were not flat when she left. I change bo...

Yeah, I can't keep right side axles in my cabby. Probably done
4 in six years and 90,000 miles. I'm reeeeaaaaal good at it now
