PDX, I noticed that you are using the Motorola alt. with the long shaft, do you know if this will work with the Bosch short shaft also. I have a feeling I am going to come up a little short for belt alignment. When you remove the compressor bracket are the ears on the block further forward than the ...

A/C compressor removal

Does anybody have a neat, clean way to eliminate the A/C compressor so that a belt can be run directly from the crankshaft. I have come up with a couple of different solutions but none that I can settle on.

I miss salvage yards, don't seem to be many around here at all. Spent all day on Saturday doing little stuff to the cab. Timing belt and tensioner, fuel filter, oil change, seat track sliders, fixed the light in the heater controls. Now I gotta get it all to work together, the guy that did the last ...

The little guy beating his head against the wall is awesome, just the thing for a Monday morning. Since the question is out there, are there any springs on the market that increase stiffness without lowering at all. Maine has some pretty rough roads and dragging parts is not something I need to be d...

For $40.00, DO IT! The experience is worth the money, and if you don't like it you lost a couple of hours labor. You know you can get your money back on the parts.

I knew power tops existed for other models (my boss' wife has a 2003 Beetle convertible) but I have never seen one on a cabby. Was this an option from VW?

Yeah, I have a cousin who has lived in Maine his whole life, when people say "you can't do that" to Mainers, its like a dare. His sister had this old dove gray Chevette, cheapest thing on four wheels. His dad was real good with GM stuff. They put a full tube frame in the car, then stuffed ...

I wouldn't think twice about driving it everyday, what could be better than pulling up next to anything that laughs and blowing it off the road. In New England there are lots of "beaters" that will smoke many of their competition.

I'm sure you guys have already tried this, the older Rabbits used to lose their ground between the alternator bracket and the block. This was mostly with Motorola units but some Bosch were affected also. Make a ground wire up and bolt it to one of the case screws that protrude from the back of the a...
