Re: Jetta Update

You don't take the fan off with the alternator. There is enough room to get a ratchet and socket on the back side of the fan to take the nut off. Then you remove the strap and slide the alternator out of the bracket. I have had the nuts get a little stubborn and have had to unbolt the manifold and t...

Re: Jetta Update

This is really gonna get you then.

You don't have to drop the motor to get the alternator
out of a Beetle ragtop.

Sorry....

Re: Jetta Update

Brian, you would have had a real hoot when I was removing a motor from a semi-auto Beetle and the kid that I was training at the time asked me if it was OK to remove the last bolt. He was worried that the motor would fall out. I laughed and said that it would take quite a bit of wiggling to get the ...

Re: The past week in Car repiar

Congatulations on the Beetle! I suppose on the anniversary too. Our 24th is Monday.

Could have bet on the valves being bent on the VR6, almost a given with that motor.

Re: The past week in Car repiar

The one that snapped was never right from the
time I installed it. I have wanted to replace it
since the first, but it worked so I left it. I almost
cheered when it went. :banghead:

Re: The past week in Car repiar

Replaced the right front axle in mine just now, fourth one in as many years. Still have the wrong inside joint on them so I swapped my old... again. Got that done and decided I wanted a working emergency brake so took the lever apart and repaired the ratchet mechanism. Tried it and snapped the left ...

Re: The past week in Car repiar

The green Cabrio that we just purchased? Sitting in the front yard on 3 flat tires, bone stock. Not really much to see. Repairs go well all the time. Which car? Just finished a 2000 Corolla 1.8 VVT-i engine job. Only thing left in the block was the crank. That was interesting. Car came in for an eng...

Re: The past week in Car repiar

Not my car but a family member of somebody else's here.
03 Neon losing brake fluid, replaced rear wheel cykinders
and shoes. Wouldn't know anything about this would you
Buster?

Thanks for the business, hope school is going well.

Re: New user info.

I may be making this more complicated than it needs to be. Maybe just a sticky so that people posting issues will be reminded to include car info. at the beginning of their post. I belong to a motorcycle forum and there is one individual that constantly reminds people to post the info. at that point...

Re: Cabby gremlin driving me nuts! - starting and horn problems

I'm starting to think that you may have an injector leaking down. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? It's kind of tricky to install because of the banjo fittings but if you can it would tell you fuel pressure at initial startup and after shutoff you can monitor for pressure drop. I'm thinking maybe ...

New user info.

Don't know if anybody else has noticed this, but sometimes we try to help people with their technical issues and we find ourselves searching for vehicle information, what year the cabby is, auto or standard etc. Could we find some way to encourage them when they sign up to include this in the signat...
