Re: Every other VW site is talking about it, so here we go
Well Brian, There isn't much actual information out there. At least VW Canada has started an information section on their webpage. but like everything else so far it is short on detail. At least they are reporting that something is going to happen. They even say they are not aware of the scope of an...

Every other VW site is talking about it, so here we go
Everyone has heard about the VW emissions scandal. If you haven't you must be living under a rock. Anyhow looks like my great TDI is one of the 11 Million affected cars (world wide only about 100 thousand in Canada). So far I have only got information from the media (and I have determined that a lot...

Re: I HAVE CAR DISEASE 1989 CABBY
Hey welcome to TRF. It's always great to see folks from the north on here. What part of Ontario do you live in. I grew up in in North York (I still refuse to say it's part of Toronto). I live in Calgary now. As for A/C neither of my two have it. To me "Down and 60" a/c is all you need (top...

Re: Found something worse than the motor mount
Not mine, but .. Sean calls me a couple of weeks ago. Seems he burned out the fuel pump fuse. Then proceeded to destroy the fuse panel trying to get the fuse out. Well guess what? Yes I have one. Well he brings over the problem panel, and sure enough the place for fuse #5 is screwed with half the fu...

Re: help unsure what is wrong
 I purchased an 86 VW Cabriolet Karmann Convertible from a friend. I have never owned a foriegn auto before. I was aware that it had a problem upon purchase and now I'm trying to figure it out for myself so I won't get cheated at a repair shop. First of all, the ideling was off and thought tha...

Re: cabby random shut off
nothing happened at all. Would you think any auto shop has it like oreilys or audio zone? Yes just quote the part number that you used in this thread. It's just a basic relay and should be in the $10 range. It's just a "plug and play " type thing. With the relay being in the engine compar...

Re: cabby random shut off
The whole engine didn't start when I unplugged the relay lol I couldn't trace it, I followed it to the back of the engine but can't see where it ends OK, when you tried to start the car with the relay removed, did the starter turn? Or did nothing happen? I'm beginning to think someone has gotten &q...

Re: cabby random shut off
Well, I haven't had a chance to get to my cars today. But I did look up the part number you mentioned above. This relay is a Ford OEM relay, so it is an add on to your car by a previous owner. It is just a simple switching relay, so it is there to isolate something. Without chasing down the wiring, ...

Re: cabby random shut off
This looks foreign to me. I don't believe it is OEM. So I guess It's time to figure out what it is for. I suggest disconnect it from the battery. Then look for what stops working. When you determine that reconnect it to the battery and confirm it is working again. It's probably something a former ow...

Re: cabby random shut off
Good question. Could you provide a little more description where it is located. Generally all the relays are located on the fuse panel. You would need to trace the wires back to see what it's for. With cars as old as yours, this could be modification someone has added along the way. Can you send a p...

Something Pretty Cool
I helped a fellow out buying and shipping a car down east. It's a long story so I won't get into it. But in return he sent me this pretty nice Cabby model.
