Re: The past week in Car repiar

ISV has no power right? Is is + or - that has been interrupted? Whichever you are missing cut the appropriate wire and supply it from the battery. Does the car run well now? If it does, find a suitable on/off source from ignition side of switch and forget about it. You can look a long time for broke...

Re: The past week in Car repiar

New Beetles seem to eat extended 5mm allen sockets as well. I have dropped and failed to retrieve 2 of them so far. I am going to braze a small cable to the next one I purchase and attach it to my belt. Never again. Hate losing tools.

Marvel Mystery is a great lubricant, if you want clean then I would suggest Sea Foam. Fantastic stuff.

Re: Help with warm starting problem

Sounds like it won't turn over at all. If that's the case and even if it isn't an automatic Brian hit the nail on the head.

Re: The past week in Car repiar

I too have had the year of the battery, Dad's Vanagon and my wife's Beetle needed them last week. Luckily I have a friend in the business and scored both for $84.50 (can't beat that). The Vanagon lean issue will most likely be more than a shock Kammie. I have seen them break springs. Also, when you ...

Re: The past week in Car repiar

Just grab one off another V-Dub at the yard next time you're there. Actually, I'll bet NAPA or Carquest have them in one of their help catalogs. If you can't fix it and you can't find one, let me know. Mine's not going to need any power brakes again.

Re: The past week in Car repiar

Probably one of my old retail customers took it out. I can't tell you how many times I had somebody step up to the counter and hand me a relay saying "I need one of these, it clicks when I turn the key on and my car won't start" I would politely (not really) tell them that it is supposed t...

Re: The past week in Car repiar

Actually, Toyota Tacoma 4X4 p/ups are easy. Everything right where you can get at it. Bet I can do one in an hour. Worst I ever saw was a 126 chassis M/B (300D) two firewalls, in between them. Not good.

Re: Another Oil Pressure Issue! I know...bare with me

Don't know if you have resolved this issue or not. There is a circuit board in the instrument cluster that controls the buzzer. 2,000 rpm is a point at which the control comes into play. My bet is this has gone bad. If you can get a spare instrument panel then swap it out. This was a HUGE bad spot i...

Re: The past week in Car repiar

Brian, the thought of you topless out in public just sent shivers down my spine. Then I realized you were talking about having the convertible top down and I was able to keep my breakfast down as well.

Re: The past week in Car repiar

Are you running an oil cooler? The seal between the block and the cooler is a common problem, difficult to distinguish between oil filter seal and cooler seal when they leak. May be the problem. Upon initial startup the oil pressure can peg that high and be normal. The blockage is a possibility but ...

Re: Passat Radio

And rightly so too. Passats are evil incarnate. Don't trust e-bay for electronic devices as a general rule. Found one for $125.00 at a yard, may have to do that. Would rather clean off somebodies shelf here if they have one.

Not looking right now cause of the wedding thing but shortly I hope. Yeah, bright yellow clipper with a standard would be perfect. All my mechanicals are fine so even the tranny is negotiable.

80-84 Jettas from Germany with square headlights isn't fair. They have 4 headlights. That's why I specified Rabbits. Good catch and great info. Kammie.
