No I have never heard of over tightening the wheel before.
Put it on as tight as you can, then smack the ratchet with your palm and you should be good to go. Besides it is only 37ft/lbs without an air bag, and 30 with an airbag.

Re: Lighting - turn signals/hazard lights
Try woking your grounds on the lamps you have to have grood grounds or you get funny things happening. Check your fuses and ground to the bulbs, I have seen corrosion on the lamp sockets that will prevent the contact from fully seating to the bulbs, and at the rear add a new ground for each side to ...

Re: Lighting - turn signals/hazard lights
If the Turns only don't work then yes it could be the switch, if the Hazards work. Just because it is new, doesn't mean that it works or that it is fully plugged in. Put the old switch back in. Replace the led bulbs in the front with your old bulbs, to eliminate them. Then the rear to eliminate them...

What is the dash light doing? That is the key, The fuse for the turns is f19 or 14 depending on year. 85-87 turns http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y65/briano1234/electrical/turn_zps6cd57239.png http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y65/briano1234/electrical/turn.png The black/white/gray is the power into...

Re: Lighting - turn signals/hazard lights
If the Hazards work and flash correctly then I would look at the relay as I can remember using a Generic relay from Wagner back in the day that wasn't a good fit, I probably would be easier to put resistor Kits on the Turns front and rear and use the original flasher. I don't think your issue is the...

Re: Bumper part search
Tried the ETKA no photos available and no parts description, but I suspect you could try a Carriage Bolt or flat headed bolt or a local visit to a hardware store to look for a similar nut.. Here is one from ECS that you might try https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-volkswagen-audi-parts/bumper-cover...

No, with the age of these cars all kinds of swaps could have been made.

Re: Dual horn - still not 100%
If you jumpered around the switch and the lights didn't come on, then you have a power issue to the switch or a bad connection between the switch connectors and the tail lights. If the lights work one time and not another that is usually a bad wire or switch. I would suspect the wires over the switc...

Re: Dual horn - still not 100%
naw, the easiest thing to miss is checking the fuses first.
My son jumped into his yesterday Cabby Plugged in the USB to the lighter and took out his clock and a few other selected things.
Grabbed the Bentley and found f3.
Pulled the fuse (blown) and replaced and the clock is fixed.

Re: Dual horn - still not 100%
in a cabby of late all the Grounds are chained together that is the right side is tied to the left an a single ground. I have found that if I add a new ground to the backing plate and tie it to a Bumper Bolt magical things stop happening.... For the reverse lights you have the switch on the Transmis...

Bulbs go bad. So do grounds, I usually tie the grounds to the body or frame at the rear lamps to the Bumper bolts.

Re: Dual horn - still not 100%
You don't need a Torque wrench on the steering wheel nut. Just fully tighten it and then a good umph will do. On the back side of your steering wheel you will see the rub mark where the contact makes connection to the wheel. Clean this and Polish this with some 0000 steel wool, it gets greasy and ca...

Re: 1981 Rabbit Convertible... it has arrived!
Check the fuse, then pull the horn relay and use a ground jumper from the 87 pin on the relay to ground, and your horns should honk, if not then it is the wires going to the horn from the relay. It they do then check the ground on the steering rack mount, to the steering gear box (under the car) htt...
