Re: Shift linkage bushings

So, much to my chagrin, I discovered tonight that the front motor mount is completely shot. The metal ball was resting directly on the socket, and the rubber mount was almost completely gone all the way around. Don't know if it will fix the problem entirely, but it certainly isn't helping. We jacked...

Re: Shift linkage bushings

I have checked the rear mount. It's fine, as it's the one the PO had replaced. I haven't looked closely enough, but where's the front mount located? I suppose I just need to get under there and look around. As far as the rods go, I have new ones, but I didn't put them on yet. I didn't even take the ...

Re: Shift linkage bushings

Long time, no posts on this issue... We've worked on it off and on the last 2 weeks, and while we're eliminating possibilities, we still don't have it working. I replaced the bearing set on the shifter, which of course required disconnecting the rod from the shifter. Imagine my surprise when I disco...

Re: Shift linkage bushings

Fiddled a bit with this last night, and we disconnected everything. I think I can mostly catch all the gears when I twist the shaft by hand, but it seems like it goes way too far to engage the gears, both left and right. We're gonna take it all back apart and put it together, and see if we can ident...

Re: Shift linkage bushings

OK... we put in the bearing, and adjusted the shifter as per instructions in Bentley. Still no gears. If anything, it's worse than before. I've looked a the transmission, and there's no detent adjustment. I can't even seem to catch third now. I'm wondering if there's something internally wrong with ...

Re: Shift linkage bushings

Yeah, that listing is the kit I ordered. As far as finding the site, I just kept googling til I found it. Good idea on splitting the bushing. Looking at the clamp to shaft connection, I haven't been able to get it to separate yet. We'll actually be doing the installation tomorrow night. I'll let you...

Re: Shift linkage bushings

Just a quick update: I found a source for a kit with that shift rod bearing from this website: http://www.importcarparts.com It includes the bearing, as well as all the bushings in the other kit I got. Their part number is J1090-51114. I ordered it last night, so I have yet to find out about the qua...

Re: Shift linkage bushings

If I remember correctly, the mentioned bushing is completely gone. Could that really account for all that play in the linkage? Is there another source than the linked site for the bushing? They indicate they won't be filling orders until 31 March. I don't mind to make the bushing if there's any way ...

Re: Shift linkage bushings

When I bought the kit, I got all the replacement parts, the bushings and the shafts. It's definitely the 5 speed kit. Since it was freakin' cold last night, we only did the bushings on the relay shaft bracket and the relay lever and shaft. I have the shafts to install later, but on inspection we cou...

Re: Shift linkage bushings

The saga continues. A buddy and I worked on this last night, and we got the bushings installed in the linkage mechanism, particularly where they were missing in the relay shaft bracket and the relay lever and shaft. After we got all of this back together, now the relay lever and shaft are bumping in...

Shift linkage bushings

While driving my 1990 cabby to work on December 22 (yeah, I had to work the Saturday before Christmas...) I discovered that I had only reverse and 3rd gears... The shifter had been muddy since I got the car, so I wasn't really surprised that this happened. I am fairly certain that everything's fine ...

Re: Just Bought a 1990 Cabby, Got a few questions

Thanks Kammy... I'm having fun with it. Hard to tell in the pictures, but I have a bit of rust (covered with paint) in the trunk door, and a little bit on the hood close to the windshield. Not too bad. Eventually, I may try to fix that. But after I get some of the mechanical solved and get a top on ...

Re: Oil Light problem...

This Saturday, I took my 1990 Cabby on the first trip of any distance, around 100 miles total round trip. After 20 or so highway miles, as I would come to a stop, I'd get the oil light. The oil pressure gauge got as low as 1.8 bar or so, at a temp of 90+C. At what pressure is there a real danger? I'...

Re: Just Bought a 1990 Cabby, Got a few questions

a couple more: DSCF0007.JPG DSCF0008.JPG DSCF0009.JPG Again, thanks for everyone's help. Next up for me: finding and fixing coolant leaks, and fixing the accelerator pedal to throttle cable linkage (which broke this morning as my son and I were driving around). I guess it wasn't the linkage, because...
