How I splice in wires.
This is how I splice into a wire run. There are 2 ways I do it. Number 1 Clean your iron: https://i.imgur.com/rzSqIx5.jpg Take a wet rag or steel wool, with the iron being hot (watch your fingers and steel wool can ignite and run like a flare so be warned.) wipe the tip of the iron off on the wet ra...

Intermittent Horn Honking on turns and Bumps?
Yes I have a 90 Cabriolet with the airbag, but this is the fix ror a non-airbagged unit as well. After Power, Removing the airbag, removing the wheel, undoing the 3 phillips that hold the clock spring in place, I quickly found the issue. https://i.imgur.com/idKroVV.png All 3 of the screws had backed...

Re: The past week in Car repair
As for the top, I know you have had a long, long standing offer on that, but I would never assume or impose in such a way. If I can get to that bridge, we can talk about crossing it if you still feel like it, lol. It's only been about 10 years or so, and I ain't getting any younger... But It may ta...

Re: Loose Steering column
There are clean and clear take-aways on your steering wheel if you remove it because of the advent of the airbag that you have to follow, but you don't have to remove it to check the position of the lower bearing or to shove it back up in place.

Re: Loose Steering column
That is usually a sign that the lower steering bearing has moved out of position. At the bottom of the outer shaft if you see a white or yellowed thing that is sticking out, then push it back up in place and hold in position with wire ties and or a hose clamp, and consider it a permanent fix. You ca...

Re: odd idle issue
I would do the Static timing as outlined in Ron's tutorial. You set the base time, then use a DVOM to adjust it. Way easier than the way the Bentley states, and it is usually spot on and only requires one person. https://www.reflectionsandshadows.com/cabby/static-digi.html VW's hate vacuum leaks.......

Re: Wiring question
From the connector and the location those I suspect are the wires out of the back of the Heater control panel RH side. But I thought those were brown and blue/gray. I don't remember a connector with Brown and black wires in it behind the dash in that location other than I said for the illumination o...
