I have also seen a similar problem on the old cis cars, What i find is the problem with a lot of them is the ground to the ICM. Agreed, the combination of ignition timing, af mixture , and the screw on the back is more than likely the cure. Also, it may help to replace the little O ring on the idle screw,it tends to shrink and harden with age, and plays the self adjust game with you. Don't forget to squeeze off the vac line ...
