that offset should JUST clear the front springs, Jimmy. My 16s are ET40 and 205 tires rubbed the springs, with 5mm spacers they have enough clearance.

BTW: While your head is off, get it hot-tanked, decked and tested for cracks. Have somebody install new valve seals. That way you can be gunk-free and certian that the head will last you another 200k. That work will be cheap.

Where are you located? I can get you an ABA for $75-100 if you're anywhere near New England.

My personal block is a 50k unit that I got for $75.

yeah, mk2 only. there are width, length, and spring rate differences.

post them on vortex's mk2 classifieds and see what response you get.

i haven't fully built the mix-and-match 16v yet, but my friend and i think it's going to work. we played with a few parts laying around his shop, but i still wouldn't be suprised if something blew up  hehe it's true the 3A audi block is shorter and that means no downpipe issues, and both 2.0 ...

^^^ spot on.

i've been thinking about a NA motor for another project. i'd go with:

2.0 16v block
1.8 16v head
1.8 16v crank

it should end up with a c/r of about 11.1 and displacement of 1.9l. a nice short stroke means it will rev and howl like a Porsche motor :D

Thanks to your motivation I got off my arse and stuck a 12v inverted-cone LED in my HVAC panel. I removed the green paint, so the unit matches the rest of my car by lighting up red.

so it's the paint that makes it green? or like the cluster, is it that green film?

i have a red cluster and so if there is no way to make this match, i'll leave it burnt out.

chris from dubsnorth was running twin weber 40s on his 2.0 16v cabby, making big power: 180whp before it was tuned, over 200whp after it was set up. that thing ws built extreme, though, it idled at 1500 and pulled to 9000.
