Re: The past week in Car repair
After driving around a couple of years with about 2 rolls of Gorilla Tape holding the top together, I got a new one on. Now I can finally get carpet and upholster the seats. I'm digging it. https://scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/1237534_10152904111078556_3545550149988956800_n.jpg?oh=0...

Re: The past week in Car repair
In preparation for the new convertible top, I built a rear shelf. I was digging around in the warehouse and found an old mixing console case. It's a cheap case that came with a console I bought years ago. I immediately put the console in a more "manly" case and threw this one in the junk p...

Re: The past week in Car repair
Installed a stereo. I went with the Clarion FZ150 from Crutchfield. The stock VW speaker connector plugged right in and is wired the same. I had to use the connector that came with the radio for power. Soldered and heat shrink wrapped of course. https://scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfp1/v/t1.0-9/...

Re: The past week in Car repair
Finally got around to fixing the sagging air box. It's definitely flatter than it used to be. The front passenger side tab was broken off so I drilled a hole where the tab used to be and used a carriage bolt. Is there supposed to be some sort of spacer on the back side where it clamps? I had a gap s...

Re: The past week in Car repair
Replaced the knock sensor, replaced the fan-on switch and put the new plug wires on. Didn't notice a difference in the way it runs but I feel better about it. https://scontent-b-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfp1/v/t1.0-9/10644944_10152734368208556_7426475451885354088_n.jpg?oh=b0c4b579f11ae5b9c89df4ff977...

Re: The past week in Car repair
Wired up the "Hot Start" fix. I mounted the relay to the ground stud just behind the battery on the fender.

Re: The past week in Car repair
Swapped both fuel pumps, new fuel filter and new fuel pressure regulator. I also replaced several fuel hoses. Here's what the transfer pump looked like.

I'll do that. I drive 200 miles then fill up. That leaves around 5+ gallons in the tank. Of course, who knows how many times it was run on empty before I got it.

Re: ~ Exterior Fuel pump on 90 - replacement question
Thanks Briano! I decided to go with the original 2 pump setup. Your article on the in tank pump replacement will help a lot. Hopefully replacing both pumps will solve the "bogging" problem I've been having. Doesn't matter what speed the car will (sometimes) hesitate (like it's starving for...

Briano,
The link seems to be dead. Is the procedure (with your additions) anywhere else online?

Re: What tool removes this?
I never could find a puller that would fit. I ended up heating up the "pulley mount" and used a straight screwdriver (then a Z bar) to get it off. To mount it on the new pump I put the pump in the freezer for about an hour then put the "pulley mount" in the oven. It slipped right...

Re: The past week in Car repair
I've been putting off a nasty exhaust leak and power steering issues since I bought the car. Tonight I ordered a pump and new hoses, the catalytic convertor and a new O2 sensor.
