Re: Fuel sporadically cuts out, battery died, wont restart
thanks briano for the reply. It may be the in-tank fuel pump being that a few months ago grounded everything out really really well. I also replaced the fuel pump relay maybe like 9 months ago..I'll pull that out and give it a quick test. and by the way, when I say it wont start I mean that when I t...

Fuel sporadically cuts out, battery died, wont restart
So i have a real puzzler here. I was driving down the highway the other day and it seemed to be that the fuel just cut out for maybe 20 seconds and then kicked back in. I got off the first exit I could after it did this 2-3 times more and as soon as I pulled up at the first red light the engine cut ...

Re: deep, grinding sound when shifting into gear and out of gear
just drove back from work and i'm thinking it may be an exhaust problem maybe - I'll have to get under the car tomorrow and take a look. it is making the noise at idle as well as while in gear driving without giving it gas - as soon as I accelerate it goes away. it's a low pitched box of marbles kin...

deep, grinding sound when shifting into gear and out of gear
1985 5-speed cabriolet.- I am getting this horrendous sound from my car when I first turn it on and when I am riding in a lower gear going slowly or when I am driving faster and ease off the gas. I thought at first it was the gears misaligned or loose because it was only doing this in first and seco...

Re: Cabby gremlin driving me nuts! - starting and horn problems
yeah, i kinda got used to that issue and just deal with it doing it's thing - I'm calling it my built in analog antitheft system. but guess what? - yup, another problem has surfaced. this car is seriously possessed. It's currently in the shop as of 6 hours ago because I noticed gears 1 and 2 making ...

Re: Cabby gremlin driving me nuts! - starting and horn problems
found the problem, sort of. The problem is in the fuse/relay panel. I found this out because the car started doing it's thing and I shut the door and it kicked right in. again when it started acting up I gave the fuse/relay panel a tap and it corrected itself. loose wire or relay i guess -maybe the ...

Re: Cabby gremlin driving me nuts! - starting and horn problems
Started right up today no problems, in a few hours though who knows.. I did unplug the oxs and it did run worse, but not nearly as bad as before. by the way, I actually do not have the test connector, someone clipped it or it broke off.

Re: Cabby gremlin driving me nuts! - starting and horn problems
no black smoke, brand new injectors and lines as well. It actually seems to be running lean. I think gull might be on to something as well. I was just running through possible problems and I'm wondering if the previous owners had adjusted the fuel mixture to run leaner since the control pressure reg...

Re: Cabby gremlin driving me nuts! - starting and horn problems
Everything is grounded well beyond stock so I dont think that is an issue anymore. I just got done driving for a while and here were the symptoms: start the car and the oil pressure light was on- the center gauge(I know they aren't the most accurate) also showed extremely low oil pressure. The car h...

Re: Cabby gremlin driving me nuts! - starting and horn problems
I agree. The frequency valve is ok, checked that. No vacuum leaks that I am aware of since I replaced most if not all the lines. I agree that it must be feeding hot back through the steering rack and causing the short/bad ground, I just cant figure out where. I pulled the fuses for everything in the...

Re: Cabby gremlin driving me nuts! - starting and horn problems
Update: I checked the grounds and everything is well grounded, engine and body, and cleaned any corrosion or build up. I found the cause for the horn problem though, in r,1,3,5 the linkage touches the power-steering line and grounds it out. I hooked up the meter and found a faint voltage..like .08-....

Re: Cabby gremlin driving me nuts! - starting and horn problems
Thanks Briano, I assumed the main cause for a lot of my problems has been faulty grounds. Being that the car is 25 years old I am always finding broken wires and random odds and ends. My only curiosity though is this: if the connectors are dirty/corroded/etc - which in fact I'm sure most are, why wo...

Cabby gremlin driving me nuts! - starting and horn problems
I purchased a cabby early summer and thanks to everyones help on the forums I have had it running top shape for the last month or so. However, all of a sudden it has had problems starting - randomly. Sometimes it will start right up and purr, other times it will start, jump to 15k rpms and then drop...

Re: NEED HELP! Rough cold start and BAD mpg!!
That would be great and much appreciated as i cant find any diagrams anywhere else. I got a brand new WUR and AAR installed today and am just waiting for the engine to cool before seeing if it helps. After checking the voltage on my nest of random wires i decided to connect the AAR to a red/wht and ...

Re: NEED HELP! Rough cold start and BAD mpg!!
Thanks for the help...but still a long way to go... Updates: it turned out the cold start valve had a break in the circuit - fixed. The auxiliary air valve is disconnected -I have no idea what it connects to as i have cut wires from the previous owner. I have exposed: red/white and brown coming up f...
